Various Retailers have Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow (eBook) for $1.99.

Thanks to Deal Editor powerfuldoppler for posting this deal.

Available from:Book Synopsis:
  • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
  • Official U.S. edition with full color illustrations throughout.
  • Yuval Noah Harari, author of the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestseller and international phenomenon Sapiens, returns with an equally original, compelling, and provocative book, turning his focus toward humanity's future, and our quest to upgrade humans into gods.
  • Over the past century humankind has managed to do the impossible and rein in famine, plague, and war. This may seem hard to accept, but, as Harari explains in his trademark style—thorough, yet riveting—famine, plague and war have been transformed from incomprehensible and uncontrollable forces of nature into manageable challenges. For the first time ever, more people die from eating too much than from eating too little; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed by soldiers, terrorists and criminals put together. The average American is a thousand times more likely to die from binging at McDonalds than from being blown up by Al Qaeda.
  • What then will replace famine, plague, and war at the top of the human agenda? As the self-made gods of planet earth, what destinies will we set ourselves, and which quests will we undertake? Homo Deus explores the projects, dreams and nightmares that will shape the twenty-first century—from overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This is Homo Deus.
  • With the same insight and clarity that made Sapiens an international hit and a New York Times bestseller, Harari maps out our future.

I liked Sapiens more but this was interesting too. The slickest deal would be to read on Libby or borrow from the library.

Sapiens was awesome. HD wasn't at the same level but was certainly worth reading and thinking about.

Enjoyed the first half of Sapiens, then it went downhill when he started injecting his politics.

Not a reference to the previous comment to which you are replying, but isn't it funny that the people who promote vast conspiracies and call others liars and cheats also want you to believe them blindly? It's easy to make grand proclamations and far-reaching allegations when you don't feel a need to back them up, and simply dismiss anyone questioning your evidence, or lack thereof.
You would think this would be blindingly obvious but half our population finds this sort of thing compelling.

Never read the book but have seen enough talks and interviews with the author to recognize someone who is popular and "sounds good" but doesn't really have anything meaningful to say at the end of the day. Kind of reminds me of the author of blink and tipping point.
It's gay too

Halfway though the audiobook for Sapiens and it's amazing. I wonder if I'm missing much by not seeing any illustrations or graphs though that might be in the hard copy? I also got the graphic novel version from library and it's also very well done (it's huge, and apparently has at least 2 volumes since my book says 'volume 1' 😲
i really enjoyed saipens. if you are into that kind of stuff i reccomend guns germs steel by jared diamond.

I know serious historians and anthropologist academics pan both Jared Diamond and Yuval Harari for oversimplifying history but for laymens and a pop culture take on history of mankind, i think they are great books

I don't remember the details of the two books of his that I read, including this one, but I remember him having an anti-human perspective and his belief was that majority of people's roles in the world would become obsolete due to AI, not that people are inherently "useless eaters". It's that with the way we are progressing most people's jobs and roles would become useless. Where did he mention eliminating "useless eaters"?
