I hoped this could have been DWS780, but it's the same DWS799

Is the only major difference the XPS tech (laser line), or are there other substantial upgrades the DWS780 provides over the 799?

Just the laser line. Other thread says you can possibly buy that in a deal for $40.

That said don't think you can return the stand in this deal unlike the other deal, but still not bad for the price and don't think it's going any cheaper.

I bought this combo about 5 years ago, only the DWS799 was paired with the DWX723 stand. I would love to own the stand that comes with this advertised bundle vs. the one I have. I absolutely love the saw. IMO this is a great deal and will do just about anything you want (both DIY and pro). I've done a ton of projects and the saw is still good, no issues at all. Baseboard trim, shiplap, a coffered ceiling, floating shelves…all with this saw. Changing the blade is easy. If you're thinking about this deal, I would recommend it. If you have an HD account and prior service (aka military discount) you can save an extra 10% making this a really good offer.

How do you get the extra 10% with an HD account?

Also, which stand is better… wheels (300lb capacity) or without wheels (500 lb capacity)

If you go to the saw listing and add the stand as a free gift you can return the stand. OP posted the link for the package deal which is not "hackable."

The package deal allows military discount to apply though if you're eligible. The hackable deals do not allow military discount.

They send you coupons, such as 0% interest for 24 months or X% off if you use your HD credit card.

I think you mean if you have a HD credit card, not a HD account.

If you add the saw to your cart you can get the stand as a free gift. Then you can return the saw.
