Hey just wanted to share I own this laptop and have been tuning it/running it through it's paces the past week. Everything from this review is accurate to the quality of the parts and it's stock performance https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gig...170.0.html . The fan curve is aggressive out of the box but is really easily tuned with the Control Center. Battery life is much better than the cheaper laptops that have been hitting front page for 549. Screen is excellent. Components can be pushed to 100% and not thermally throttle. I wanted better temps so I repasted it with the new Arctic MX-6 (did it wrong the first time, second time was the charm). I also used Universal x86 Tuning Utility to tell the CPU to target 83 degrees. I then undervolted the 3060 with MSI afterburner. After everything the laptop has higher cinebench scores than it did stock and stays whisper quiet. Temps for CPU and GPU stay around 80-85 degrees when pushed for extended periods of time. Anyways I think this laptop is a very good deal and I'm very happy I got it. So far I think it's the best budget option with a 3060 in it. It's for my daughter for Christmas so I've automated everything to make it really simple to use where she doesn't need to worry about "breaking" the tuning. If anyone has any questions let me know.

Oh and also. Deal is live now. You do not have to wait.

Anyone know if this laptop would support two monitors (assuming one uses a HDMI cable and the other uses a DisplayPort cable)?

It should do. One of the reasons that I ordered one. It may even be able to drive 3 external monitors. Note resolution and refresh rate limitations when driving more than one monitor and this is also affected by the version of HDMI and display port on the laptop.

I jumped on this and cancelled my order for the ideapad 3 gaming, The difference in price and extra specs is phenomenal. Thanks, @CnS_Panikk - I'll crack it open and do some tuning as well.

Just be sure to try it out before you repaste. You may be happy with the stock paste performance after undervolt and won't have to worry about a warranty hassle. The stock paste when I got it was dry but was still very effective for what it was doing.

Thanks for update. How is the screen? Is it a TN like some are claiming? How is the screen compared to the lenovo you bought? Thanks
It may be TN, but a good TN like my Dell s2176dg. Not all TN are created equal. What you want to look at is brightness and color accuracy. I encourage you to go look at the notebookcheck.com review of the a5 K1. Lots of cheaper TN panels have horrible colors and brightness. Not this one though.

EDIT: Keep in mind that IPS is trademarked for LG panels only. No one else can use that term to say their panel uses the same technique as In Plane Switching unless the panel is from LG. this panel may very well be a VA panel or TN, but it's bright enough for any indoor use and colors are much better than the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 or any other cheaper TN

Should these steps be followed for other brands too? My 1 year old Dell G15 5511 gets a little hot after extended use or brief gaming. Will these steps help extend its lifespan?

You should be able to run both the Universal x86 Tuning Utility as well as MSI afterburner to undervolt any modern laptop

I run them on windows and I can run at most 2 vms before they grind to a halt and my OCR bots start malfunctioning, hopefully I can run more with a new laptop!

Why does it say "IPS-level"? Is that ips-like and it's just a TN panel?
It means it is an ips panel, its just that some company (I cant remember which) trademarked it or something so that all of the other laptops manufacturers have to say ips-level.

Hey I got this laptop when it went on the same sale a week ago too. Can you share the specific parameters you settled on using Universal x86 TU (this [github.com] I'm assuming?) and MSI afterburner?

I want to get a gaming laptop for around this price. It's for my son's christmas present and he wants to play roblox on his oculus quest 2. Can this with the 3060 handle VR?
