While I'll admit that this is one case where you really want to cut the cord, it is still a real choice for PC VR games (played through your GPU)*. If you have a serious GPU, don't expect the internal GPUs of wireless headsets to compare. And also check if some sort of retractable ceiling mount is possible (a kludge, but connecting a wireless/meant-to-be-standalone headset to a GPU is also a bit of a kludge as well).

But it also really, really good at "sitting" simulations. But I want a reverb G3 that is wireless anyway.

* I'm an old school electrical engineer. Wires transmit both power and data amazingly well, and wireless is just iffy and keeps wanting to be recharged. But walking around blindfolded with a tether is just insane and qualifies as 'no you should never use wires in this situation'. But it really is a good headset, if sitting or you have some of ceiling mount cable management.

I have both a G2 and a Quest 2. The G2 is AMAZING for sims (racing and flight) with its beautiful screen, but I prefer the Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop for everything else. Wireless really is a game changer for the majority of VR games. I've got mine setup with a dedicated WiFi 6 router (WAX202) that I got for $30 and there is no noticeable latency or video degradation. The only time I use my G2 is for racing sims and MSFS2020.

I have this. I'd like to sell it because the black levels are terrible. You really need an oled if you are going to strap a display to your face.

Damn, sorely tempted. This is supposed to be a good headset for sim racing. I only hesitate because some reviews seem to imply it isn't very reliable. That 3-year extended warranty might actually be worth it...

Edit: ok, after re-reading the 1-star reviews I can't get myself to buy it. The industry is going to have to come up with a non-Oculus device I actually feel comfortable buying. https://www.amazon.com/product-re...geNumber=1

If you are into sim racing or flight sims, this is THE headset you want... even still after its been out this long.

Lighter than most headsets in its class, better resolution, no lighthousese to deal with (a big plus if you're not using hand controls... ie sim racing and flight).

I have the G2 V1 and the biggest complaint was the gasket depth.... kept your eyes too far from screen and limited your focus, but there is a mod you could do to fix it. supposedly the G2V2, which is bet is what this is, fixed some of that issue.

Either way, if you're a DCS player, or MSFS2020 pilot, etc, and considering... dont hesitate.

This is the V2 so it was fixed with new cable.

Quest pro is way more expensive than this so I wouldn't put them in the same category, the Quest 2 is more comparable. If it's your first foray into VR then this HP is a solid choice if you have a gaming PC. The ease of setup, and not having to deal with light houses is a huge plus for these Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

If the length of the cables is an issue you can always buy extensions though finding a compatible USB 3.0 extension cable is a pain.

Even with the original (I had that one), HP replaced the cable with the V2 free of charge if you hit up their chat support. It works fine on both my AMD and Intel systems now.

I bought this a few weeks ago. here's my review:

Resolution: Amazing
Tracking: Good enough
Controllers: Good enough.

Tracking works just fine 99% of the time. I've only noticed issues when I reach really close to my head to adjust a virtual helmet or other virtual head mounted items.

Coming from the Oculus CV1 the resolution is LIGHT YEARS better. Although the oculus controllers were maybe 5% better quality. Regardless, the price to performance is amazing compared to other headsets that cost 2-4x as much.

Microsoft needs a VR headset apart from Vive/Steam. HP is getting really aggressive in consumer new tech niches. I've met the CTO and she gets it.

Bottom line I'd be surprised if it was the last gen. WinMR headsets historically have done this mid cycle.
