While I'll admit that this is one case where you really want to cut the cord, it is still a real choice for PC VR games (played through your GPU)*. If you have a serious GPU, don't expect the internal GPUs of wireless headsets to compare. And also check if some sort of retractable ceiling mount is possible (a kludge, but connecting a wireless/meant-to-be-standalone headset to a GPU is also a bit of a kludge as well).
But it also really, really good at "sitting" simulations. But I want a reverb G3 that is wireless anyway.
* I'm an old school electrical engineer. Wires transmit both power and data amazingly well, and wireless is just iffy and keeps wanting to be recharged. But walking around blindfolded with a tether is just insane and qualifies as 'no you should never use wires in this situation'. But it really is a good headset, if sitting or you have some of ceiling mount cable management.
I have both a G2 and a Quest 2. The G2 is AMAZING for sims (racing and flight) with its beautiful screen, but I prefer the Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop for everything else. Wireless really is a game changer for the majority of VR games. I've got mine setup with a dedicated WiFi 6 router (WAX202) that I got for $30 and there is no noticeable latency or video degradation. The only time I use my G2 is for racing sims and MSFS2020.
I have both the odyssey+ (oled) and g2. The oled does have true blacks, but the g2 blacks are decent. Better than other lcd vr headsets I've used before. You are not gonna find any 4k oled vr headsets on the market that are affordable. If you want oled, prepare to have very bad resolution.
Resolution: Amazing
Tracking: Good enough
Controllers: Good enough.
Tracking works just fine 99% of the time. I've only noticed issues when I reach really close to my head to adjust a virtual helmet or other virtual head mounted items.
Coming from the Oculus CV1 the resolution is LIGHT YEARS better. Although the oculus controllers were maybe 5% better quality. Regardless, the price to performance is amazing compared to other headsets that cost 2-4x as much.
Is this the v2 version? Because if not tracking is horrible. I've owned both versions
HP return sucks, i bought a laptop few days ago tried to cancel the order before it was shipped could not do it, tried to return the laptop after receiving it $45 restocking fees....
Yes, HP return sucks. I tried to use the 1000 HP Rewards points (worth $30) that the sales rep compensated me for the price drop but there were very few items and they could be applied to. Wanted to use them for an HP Gaming Headphone but couldn't. Ended up using them to get two wireless mice that I didn't really need.
On the other hand, B&H Photo price-protection is great. I bought a Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus SSD at B&H on 11/3 for $199.99. Yesterday it went on sale for $149.99. I sent one email to B&H Customer Service and they promptly refunded $50 to my cc. That's the way it should be.
This headset had a V1 and V2. V1 was praised for its top tier screen but absolutely destroyed for its controllers. V2 has addressed the controllers but it got very little revisiting from reviewers. So, it was kind of forgotten. Check out YouTube reviews for the headset with the updated controllers and you'll see how much it is liked now.
I paid $100 more earlier this year and it's been great with WMR and Steam VR.
This is a solid headset unless you are a full time VR enthusiast and want the latest and greatest.
This is a great price point if you want to mess around with VR without much compromise.

That's good to hear. I bought the Reverb V2 earlier this month to use with a gaming PC that I'm building for DCS World flight sim. Waiting for a CPU Cooler to complete the build. Can't wait to try out the Reverb in DCS World.

I currently use a Rift S with iRacing, does anyone have experience comparing that to this headset? Would it be a worthwhile upgrade or should I keep the funds for a direct drive wheel?

I bought this a few weeks ago. Loved it but then 1 week before my 30 days ran out, my PC no longer recognized that the headset was plugged in. I noticed that the v2 interface box was really hot. The RMA process was not bad even though I read a lot of horror stories. I packed and shipped the unit back and once HP had a tracking number they shipped me a new replacement unit. I've had my new one for 3 days and the interface box on this one runs cooler. I wasn't charged a restocking fee. I'm being extra careful with the interface box and cable. Would I recommend? A cautious yes. If it doesn't fail on me, the visuals are amazing for a headset of this price and the tracking on V2 is way better than V1 which I owned and sold awhile back.

I returned an out of the box faulty one I bought in the summer for a refund and oh boy did it take a long time to get by money back! The support was useless and most of the time they were telling me to wait a few more days because of their process, covid-related delays, and whatnot. After waiting for more than a month overall, I ended up opening a dispute with the credit card company that eventually got resolved to my favor. Maybe their replacement process works better, but I didn't want to try another one.
My advice is if you're buying this deal, go with Walmart as you can always return it to their store in person and save yourself from all that hassle.
got mine today, 1 day shipping, they didnt even put it in another box, just the retail box, HP did the same thing with my laptop that was shipped from China, just the retail box.

Bottom line I'd be surprised if it was the last gen. WinMR headsets historically have done this mid cycle.

Likely in Windows 12 it'll become "VR Services" or something like that, as Microsoft scrapped HoloLens 3 - which means AR and VR may get split up.
But I doubt Microsoft is just handing all VR to Meta. Makes no sense, as they need to keep Windows buy-ins alive.

is it worth it getting the 2yr warranty?
