Good lens! I personally had it for a short time and thought it was great for the price. I prioritize size of lenses since I know that I'm less likely to bring my camera places if the lenses are big. This is one of the smallest Full Frame zooms around this range, however I did end up getting rid of it when Sigma released a direct competitor to it that is slightly smaller.

But I'd happily still have this lens if the Sigma were discontinued, as the size difference isn't huge.

For wider zoom (light weight) full frame travel lens, which one people think may be better?
  • Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD (2019) (420g) (~$800)
  • Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN (2022) (has AF/MF button) (450g) (~$900)
  • Tamron 20-40mm F2.8 Di III VXD (2022) (365g) (~$700)

Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 was released to compete with this lens. It's shorter and a little lighter, with negligible differences. Both great!

I had the Tamron 17-28mm (which I chose over the Signa 16-28mm because the Tamron is smaller and uses the more common 67mm filters).

I switched to the Tamron 20-40mm which I love even more. Even smaller and an awesome versatile range. I recommend it as a great general lens for walkaround.

No - most of the newer Full Frame lenses don't have it since most Full Frame cameras now have it built in. I use the built in stabilization on my Sony camera.

Personally, f4 is too dark for me to shoot video in night areas. I'm happy with 2.8 minimum in the dark with my A7S III.

Depends on if you plan on using it at night or in dark areas.

It's one of stop of difference, so you're halving the amount of light.

I do plan, but for 90% it's gonna be run and gun during the day so OSS is something what makes me thinking of 24-105

Tamron 28-75 f2.8 g2 or sony 24-105 f4 oss? For travel videos with a7siii
I recently bought the A7C body only (via educational deal at B&H). I chose the 24-105 f4 over the Tamron for the following reasons. I don't know enough about videography to say whether it applies to you:
  • A few people said that 28 mm on the wide end would be limiting (with the Tamron) and I would want the 24 that Sony has
  • I wanted at least one Sony-branded lens: in case something went wrong with the camera, I would know that it's a problem with the camera (and not incompatibility with the lens)
  • The A7C (And A7 III) have very good low-light performance. And even in low-light conditions, I can denoise afterwards (in post) and recover just about everything.
  • I can lower the shutter speed if I need to. And the OSS on lens (and IBIS) helps with that.
  • I got a spectacular deal on the Sony f4--about $80 more than the Tamron.
What do I think? Well, I don't have any experience with the Tamron, so take this with a grain of salt. I tend to use the higher end zoom of the Sony more than I thought. I am currently focusing on composition, so it's been handy for me to zoom into and crop a good-looking picture in the field rather than in post. But I have also come across many places where I miss the low-light performance. Particularly, last weekend shooting a dancefloor (where I was a participant, so I could not exactly bring a flash). I did come across situations (outdoors on a trip and a group shot at the dance event) where I actually used the 24mm end, but in both cases, I could've taken a few steps back and been OK.

The thing people said that was the most true was: "Whichever one you pick, you'll think the other is better and probably end up buying it anyway." Which is sort of where I'm at.

I also ended up buying a few primes: Tamron 20mm 2.8 (used), Tamron 24 mm 2.8, and Sigma 45 mm 2.8.

If Amazon 3rd party has the same Tamron Lens with extra accessory/bundle at the same price and some shipped by Amazon (sold by 3rd party with 100% positive or 95%+ positive reviews over 1000 ratings), would it be better to buy from those 3rd party or should still stay with Amazon as seller?

This 3rd party Adorama shipped by Adorama,
These 3rd party shipped by Amazon (Digital Goja, Beach Camera)
