+1. Trying to understand why the price is so high on these compared to regular LED Christmas lights.

I also thought I read these are not good for outdoor xMas lighting. Can someone confirm??
Same question here. I'd like to know if anyone use these on the outside of your home trim like traditional outdoor christmas lights?

I have two 400 sets outside. One on a tree and the trim of my house. pushes your lighting to the next level, sure LED is a thing, but don't have the artistic ability or level of customization with those LED lights verse these.

Additionally, these are all outdoor IP rated, just don't submerge them in water and you'll be fine.

I was SUPER annoyed with the price, but if you do a similar setup DIY, you'll be paying this much just for the lights, and not the wire, or controllers to run these, let alone the time to program them.

Whats special with these ? Seems so expensive
These are like Hue Christmas lights (except not, since Hue just launched their own to compete). They are smart lights that are individually addressable so you can make cool patterns and designs in the app. I have a set and love them. They also don't get as tangled because the LEDs are shrink wrapped. Plus, at $150, I'm less likely to sacrifice them to the trash can demons when the holidays are over.

And if you're looking for the tree, it's still cheaper at Michael's ($419)

Edit - to be clear, this isn't a good deal, just a slightly better deal than what's posted
I stopped looking at Michaels after the last drop ended on their side.

Just an fyi... I have two of the 600 lights set. I have been unsuccessful in grouping them together despite my best efforts. If you look at 1 star Amazon reviews, you will see the same thing mentioned over and over - can't group, can't connect to wifi (they must be connected to wifi to group), crappy app, etc. It's a LOT of hassle folks... just saying. But I'll add, when they do work, they are beautiful and almost worth it. Almost. OHHHHHHHHH and don't spend the extra to get the music unit. You've been warned.

As someone who does QA, I've noticed little quality-of-life issues.

I'd imagine they would be able to push updates to this, as you do update these things when you open them. So not sure were that is with Twinkly.

Other quality of life issues, if you have multiple lights, you have to select each light to control, instead of a giant toggle, or an option to control all with one color option.

I would need this confirmed, but I thought twinkly lights were fine to be used outside. To your other question, they're more expensive because, like Philips Hue lights, you're paying for a known brand. You're also getting smart features that regular "dumb" LED lights wouldn't have, such as being able to choose from 16+ million colors, being able to customize the look (ex: bottom half of the tree can be a different color than top half, etc.), as well as being able to sync them to music (if you have the special music device to do so, although I heard it's not the best).

All in all, for 600 colored lights, a quick search appeared that I could get dumb LEDs for maybe no more than $60, and the value of the above was worth the added premium. Hope that helped.

There's some open box rgb+w sets of 400 on ebay for $120 right now, which is as cheap as I have found, cheaper than most used sets. I bought two sets for this 7.5 balsam hill tree I just purchased.

The majority of the grouping/Wi-Fi issues are the same. You can't group RGB and RGBW. And they require 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

That's actually a different tree. The Michaels tree is 435 LEDs and RGB. The Best Buy tree is 400 LEDs and RGB+W. The +W is a warm white dedicated channel. Twinkly describes the differences here: https://help.twinkly.com/en/help/...ds-profile

you can map each led using the camera on your phone. Its not just a string pattern, but a collective pattern
