Just like EVERY soundbar I consider, it's rated not so good in certain areas. I am so frustrated because it seems like even $1k soundbars are rated only mediocre in one area and great in others.

That's because a soundbar is a bad solution to the problem.

For good soundstage, the speakers need to be further apart than a soundbar allows
For good bass, a speaker needs to be bigger than a soundbar allows
For good surround sound, the speakers need to surround you (hence the name).

It's like using a swiss army knife's "saw" blade to cut 2x4's - will the wood be cut? maybe. will it be a clean cut? probably not. Is it efficient? no. Will you be happy with the results? No.

There are really good surround sound speakers and receivers available for a couple hundred more than this (combined), and you will be infinitely happier.

I know, but I have had a yamaha soundbar for a long time and it has been very good for what it is. Unlike msot soundbars it came with a receiver and the RECEIVER has the subwoofer built in. For an apartment it's great because it gives you SOME rumble without vibrating walls to annoy neighbors. In fact even with just that it annoyed a neighbor one time, so I can only imagine with an actual sub on the floor. lol.

But the problem is my receiver now broke and I was using it oon an elite monitor so I can't even use it now since it has no onboard audio. lol.

But anyway my point is yes I know ideally you'd want a whole set of speakers instead, but for my situation my soundbar has been good, so I am frustrated that so many bad reviews make me assume current tech may be even worse than my old tech.

For instance... tom's hardware said some certain brand (I forget the name, as it's rarely mentioned in soundbar lists) sound bar was great. I then looked on rtings and sure enough it said it is great too. For the main thing i care about, dialogue, it said excellent.... THEN right after saying excellent dialogue, it said it has high latency! I dunno how anyone can rate anything at all excellent if it has a big audio delay! Also my yamaha has a setting to fix that.

Oh and also even my yamaha sometimes really truly does make sounds seem like they are way across the room and it's 13 year old tech. This is why I am tempted to just buy a used replacement receiver for $75 from ebay and be done for now. I can't use atmos, anyway, as long as I like using this plasma.
