As far as who invented what and who is copying, I'll add that I have a DeWalt set similar to that one (maybe it is #6 + #8 + #10, not sure) that has got to be between 20 and 30 years old.

Prefer to buy USA made tools when I can.

But hey, since I'm already posting ... Peace

What I tend to do when needing something like this - drill, countersink, drive a screw, I'll use at least two drills / drivers (sometimes 3). I mean, I've got at least half a dozen of them, as I'm sure most SD'ers who can't resist the good deals do. LMAO

I'm guessing your DeWalt set was an older made in USA one then. Probably made where Montana Brand makes there's.

I bought a Sears brand copy 30 years ago. It was a great accessory back then when corded drill dominated. No impact driver on the market back then. Today, I don't even know where that tool is. I have 2 sets of cordless drill/ impact driver sets. The need for this tool has greatly diminished.

I learned from SD that the SD move is a drill and an impact. And now I have two drills and an impact driver bc I'm so slick.

I have this. It works good if you have a drill gun (not Impact gun with quick Hex). This will only work with the Drill gun (twist attachment that tightens).
So this is bad for 1 handed or ladder work. I now had to buy something else with a Quick Hex attachment that doesnt require 2 hands to pull the release - while also pulling out the bit.
What I bought on Amazon has a sleeve that pulls and stays open, thus you can reverse the bit with 1 hand.
I cant link. Last time mods banned me for a rule about not posting new threads with Amazon links - when I posted a comment, not a thread.

Montana made them for Sears back in the day.

Nowadays, the Montana sets say they are impact rated on the front of the packaging.
