You'll get charged the full price + taxes when making the order with a trade-in online. When you go in-store to pick up the new phone and trade in your old phone, they'll refund you the difference and with that, your taxes will also be adjusted according to the final price.

Source: I traded in my Pixel 6 for a Pixel 7 a month ago at Best Buy.

Placed an order on Nov 26 and just traded an 11 from Straight Talk to Best Buy earlier today, so that's 13 calendar days and no issue at all.

Stopped by at BB. Rep mentioned our price is locked and we would be honored with the promotional trade in value if picked up before the date

Do u know if trade ins are still valid? I heard it's valid for 15 days not sure when that 15 days counter starts
I'll try to contact Best Buy support to confirm. I literally am leaving the store and didn't pickup my order... They just offered $110 for my straight talk refurb iPhone XR. The trade-in value I was quoted originally was like $460... As the table says on the first page.

I also didn't have my ID on me, and I'm not sure if the next rep would be willing to use a picture of ID or other methods

Edit: official policy seems to be trade-in estimate is valid for 14 days from when the estimate was given

"Your item must be received within 14 days of the estimate or Best Buy has the right to revise or withdraw the estimate for the trade-in or credit value."

Your receipt shows only 110 trade in. $350 is the bonus that will be automatically refunded. There are cases where the phones were not available for pickup until after 14 days. I believe values were still honored

Well, maybe I'll go back tomorrow after talking to CS first... But this was coming from a store manager as he was looking at the system. If I go ahead with it, I would need to know it is returnable at full value. Maybe if I left it in box, unopened, while I wait 2 weeks for the phone evaluation, I would be fine?

Edit: interestingly, the trade in value estimator shows $90 now for the iPhone XR

The rep I went to seemed very uninformed about how everything worked. She said the trade in value was showing as $110, so I specifically asked about the $350 bonus and she said she saw it after looking further. Then, there seemed to be a bit more confusion when the manager showed up to finalize things as I asked about the total refund again. I tried to get a receipt showing the total credit, but that seemed almost more confusing. It just showed the $110 refund, but also showed the total purchase of about $150 (like the 350 credit was already applied and a refund wasn't needed for that). But both assured me I was good, so I left figuring I'd go back and raise heck if I didn't get the promo. Luckily, it all worked out and the total charge was about $40. However, the final receipt basically shows that it was purchased for about $150 plus tax. I wouldn't expect more than that back if you have to return it. That $350 was a bonus that would likely disappear in a refund situation, kind of like how you wouldn't refunded for a coupon that was used.

Thanks for sharing... so are you saying then that if I do pick this up tomorrow, am still told the iPhone XR has a trade-in value of $110... but I go forward with the pickup order, don't open the phone for 2 weeks while they evaluate, and then... if the evaluation is only $110, and not $460 or something, and so if I need to return it (unopened), I would be out $350 from the return value?

Since you're trading in at the store, you shouldn't need to worry about the two weeks, unless I'm missing something. In other words, I think you should be good once the rep checks it off as accepted. When I picked mine up, I then brought my trade over to the cell counter where they looked it over briefly and entered the IMEI etc and finished everything up there. You'd just need to make sure you actually get both the trade and bonus values. I'd definitely make sure they see that in the system. Maybe bring a copy of your receipt that shows the bonus so they can at least confirm that's what they see on their end.

I'd be kind of concerned if they act like they're just going to send it off without actually entering the info and processing the trade there. If the manager doesn't seem to know how the trades work, I'd check with the person at the cell counter and mention you have a pickup, but also need to do your trade in. I'm pretty sure that's how most ended up doing it.

But yeah, I think that if you returned it, you'd only get back whatever you paid (around $40) plus a $110 store credit from the trade value. I think people would be returning these things like crazy for $460 in store credit if there was any way to do that.

What is this 2 week evaluation you talk about?

Sorry for all the questions but could you clarify another thing for me please? When you went ahead to pickup the order, did the trade-in etc, it showed $110... But the final receipt showed the $350 discount?

I'm just debating whether it's worth me trying to go in again... They might not even allow me to do the pickup this time since I don't have my driver license - only a picture of it. Also, wondering if I can ask them if I can just refund it instantly if the $350 instant discount isn't applied after finalizing the transaction...

To be honest, I don't really want to spend $400+ or whatever for this phone. It'd be nice if they would give me a little more assurance on this

Yeah, here's a pic of what the values showed from a printout they gave me at the store after it was done. It kind of concerned me because my original online order showed a $530 total, so I was expecting $460 in "refunds". But instead, it showed the after-discount total of $150 and a $110 refund. I guess the original charge was just a "pending" hold until the order completion. It showed up a little more clearly on the online receipt if you go in to review your past order info. That actually shows how much was charged to your card if you expand one part. It might be good to take a look at it there before and after, before you even leave the store to make sure it's right if in doubt. It took a couple of days before the $530 pending charge was updated on my credit card and then ended up showing a $150 charge followed by a $110 refund, if I remember correctly.

Just picked up my 4th one. Found an XR on FB for $160 and took it in. Looks like it all went through. Final cost was like $43 or something I got the trade in receipt for $110. Im sure I will get the credit on my cc in the next few days.
