And if you really want something sturdy, open your sheetrock carefully and install a solid 12-18" x 3/4" board in between the two studs. Replace sheetrock, tape-n-float, texture, and paint. But that's way overkill if you ask anyone.

I can not even find a single one that can mount to my wall ,not even the $400 Sanus from BB ,who ever designs these things are complete morons
I have normal sheet rock and plaster walls with standard 16" stud spacing, I just took down my old 50" Panasonic plasma
From the wall,(not easy)
To replace it with a 55" LG C1 OLED
Only to find out that the collective I.Q. of the planet seems to have dropped at least 100 points since 2009 when I bought the plasma and the wall mount for it .
The old mont is able to hit my studs no problem, but it is not full motion and I want the maximum extension from the wall I can get since I am really nearsighted now and the games ,esowi playstation have the most ridiculously small fonts for everything, I mean can they help it , really.
So I went and picked up the Costco Sanus model that extends 28" from the wall
Only to find out that the wall plate is too short to even be used at all
It misses the studs by just under 1" on each side.
I have been buying and return these things like crazy ,first one didn't fit the TV ,second one was redesigned,
Bought them both before I took the old TV down turns out neither of them would have worked anyway.
Nor does the new one I just got
Went to BB and measured the wall plate for the expensive Sansus ,FML it it too short too and even worse than the cheaper Costco one!
Spent hundreds of hours looking on Amazon ,not a single one can mount to my wall , not a single one of them have holes 32" stud spacing of you need to mount the TV with a center stud centered behind the center of the TV,
This was not a problem 15 years ago but it is now apparently ,I was really not expecting this at all.
People have really gotten a whole lot dumber in a very short amount of time it seems, so frustrated especially since the Sanus only misses it by under 2"
God damnit those people are just so stupid all they would have had to do was make the wall plate like 1 1/4 " bigger and provide max hole spacing not even 2" wider.
It looks I might be able to drill out the Sanus from Costco but just barely ,the holes will be at the bleeding edge of the corners ,if this doesn't work it looks like I am all out of options unless I get a welder to weld extensions to each end
Imagine working for Sanus and designing these this for a living and not even knowing you are making a product that can not even be used, and then having the balls to charge $400 for it.

I would image that it would save everyone a lot of hassle and the company would make more sales and money had they just designed these right in the first place
Ok it might cost them a little more in materials to add an extra 1.5" of steel to the rails on wash end
But they would get more sales and less returns from customers like me.
I shouldn't have to drill it out and question weather it is going to be safe or not it should just work out of the box
The TV is 43lbs so ok it is in the lower end of what the mount claims is can handle
The 28" extension from the wall is what concerns me though ,that weight being extended so far out , I would not want to rely on wall anchors and sheet rock or even plywood , which will also have the disadvantage of making the TV stick out more
Hope I will be able to drill through it easily ,I don't generally drill holes in steel and I am not even sure what to would call this type of steel, stainless, hardened,etc.
From what I have seen you could probably do it with a normal but as long as it is sharp and new and you use a center punch, but probably better to get a cobalt bit and with either you need to use cutting oil ,
It's just a PITA and the people who's job it is to design these things FOR A LIVING should really know better , the real kicker here and the thing that pisses me off the most is that is only off by such a small amount,Also this thing has no center holes in the wall plate either, it only has holes on each end so I can not as someone else suggested use the center holes to mount to the center stud.

I need to mount this center between 2 windows and there is no way to make it work because they neglected to make the wall mount plate like 1.5" longer and make the max hole spacing 1" wider on each side or include any holes for mounting it to a center stud.
Not "user error" since my old non full motion mount has a wall plate that works in use case.
are there people who actually mount these on drywall?
With that said, does the full motion actually support 85-86" seems scary especially if its extended out

Long story short, I don't think people have gotten dumber, I think the approach to mounting TVs has changed substantially from what was done 10-20 years ago.
