Instead of just saying, hey buy this phone outright and we'll give you this gift card for this much.. But no, they make this as confusing af so carriers still win in the end.

If they have not changed the process for this year, you will get the Walmart gift card emailed to you within 24-48 hours after purchase. I have upgraded this exact way 3 years in a row via Walmart because I have an old grandfathered ATT plan and do not want it changed or touched. This is the probably one of the few retailers besides ATT Corporate stores that can do upgrades or add lines without changing your current plan.

In 2019 I lined up in store and purchased 2 phones in store. It was $350 actual gift cards back then, they were loaded and activated at the time of phone purchase but they said the funds should be available after 4 hours back then.

In 2020 I did 2 lines again but it was only $300 gift cards but via email. The emailed gift cards and PIN codes came in a few hours after the phone purchases.

In 2021 I got smarter. I booked each phone's activation appointment 1 day apart. This time I upgraded 3 lines. The first $300 credit came in within 2 hours of paying for the first phone upgrade. So for the second phone's activation the next day, I used the first phone's gift card and paid down $300. Same with the 3rd phone upgrade the following day as the second phone's gift card email came in shortly same day after they processed the second activation. Therefore I am left with only 1 $300 gift card to spend later. Yes I went there 3 days in a row, lucky it's only 4 miles away and you get to reserve the phone size and color you wanted on their available phones on-hand list.

You DO NOT get monthly billing credits. This way you are never tied up for 3 years because billing credits balance is forfeited if you cancel or port out. The only situation where you may get billing credits is if you did a trade in and received $800 credit or whatever corporate ATT was promoting. But then you are REALLY tied up for 36 months if you wanted the $800 or whatever the ATT trade in promo was offering. The trade in promo billing credit deal is ONLY worth it if you plan on staying with ATT for 3 years AND if they were giving you $800 for an old cracked phone. I have never done this because the trade in promotions always required a plan change for me. Sorry I can not shed any light on this type of deal stacking as I do not want my grandfathered plan changed. Perhaps someone who has traded in as well as received the $300 gift card can share their experience here.

Please note, you ARE required to do the installment plan. There must be some kind of cell carrier kickback commissions for installment plans along with the line upgrade or new line activation commissions to the retailer. The monthly installment amount to be paid is dependent on how much you pay up front during checkout. So if the phone is $1049 and you pay down $849 plus your state's sales tax on the full amount, it will leave you with a $200 balance due, your monthly installments would be $200/36 months = $5.56 per month.

After 2 billing cycles (probably when the cell carrier commissions are paid due to Net60 terms) you can pay off your remaining balance via the ATT website and then cancel and go to another carrier and request the unlock code via their unlocking portal entering your IMEI number and cell phone number and email address. It usually takes a few days for the unlock email with the codes to arrive, a few times it came same day as submission.

For me I pay them off right before the next year's promos and request the unlock, unless I need a phone to be unlocked sooner due to international travel etc, then I would pay off that line ASAP as it may take a few days to process the unlock. Once the installments are paid off, I can quickly upgrade again via Walmart Black Friday promo, wash, rinse and repeat.

So to sum it up, you will receive your $300 gift card via email shortly after the phone purchase and activation. If you want the phone unlocked as soon as possible, do not do trade in billing credits and be tied up for 36 months. Pay down as much as you can at the time of purchase. Pay off the remaining balance after 2 billing cycles and request the unlock. For iPhones you do not have to do anything after requesting the unlock. Once you receive the email that it has been approved, just insert your non-ATT SIM card and it will re-activate the phone via Apple's server and it will be unlocked permanently, it will reboot, and probably automatically do a carrier settings update right after.

I just used AmEx points with 30% bonus to buy straight from Apple. Will just sell current phones after those get delivered. Cost of phone outright is around 175 after that. I didn't want 36 month credit with Verizon.
I see 1 to 1.1176. So on promo they're 1.3 to 1.1176? The Chase offer is better at 1.25 to 1 if you have URs.

Since this was posted, I wrote down the prices for AT&T phones. There is a misprint regarding the payment options. It's 36 months but there is a link that states 30 months. AT&T is 36 months for sure.

Price when deal posted (256GB)
iPhone 14 Plus = $27.20 per month or $979.20, Apple sells for $999
iPhone 14 Pro = $29.14 per month or $1049.04, Apple sells for $1099
iPhone 14 PM = $31.92 per month or $1149.12, Apple sells for $1199

Price as of 11-19-22
iPhone 14 Plus = $27.75 per month or $999
iPhone 14 Pro = $30.53 per month or $1099
iPhone 14 PM = $33.31 per month or $1199

For AT&T, if you are buying the 14 iPhone as an upgrade, the Walmart ordering system will have you enter your AT&T credentials and you will accept a new 3-year contract.
  • AT&T will charge you the upgrade fee.
  • Walmart ships you the phone.
After you get the phone, make sure you activate it. I believe that is one of the conditions to get the gift card is activation. Takes about 20 days after activation if you buy online.

To sweeten this deal, take your old phone to the AT&T Store Corporate Store for trade-in. You can get up to an $800 credit over 36 months if you trade in a phone they value at $130 or higher. TRADE IN DEAL IS ONLY FOR THE iPHONE 14.

All you have to do is tell them you recently upgraded to the iPhone 14 and did the 3-year contract and here to trade in your old phone. Your trade in is due within 30 days of activation. Once they deem your trade in is okay, ask for a receipt.

I did this deal last year for the iPhone 13 and I have an unlimited family plan (the one where they gave free HBO Max, around 2019) with my siblings and mom. We don't plan to switch carriers and have been with AT&T a long time. We also use their latest microcell to in our homes for full signal. It's not 5G and others AT&T users near the microcell can get a boost.

I know! Unlike Amazon or Costco Walmart gift cards are not cash to me
Then this is a learning opp for you, since e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g at Amazon is overpriced compared to Walmart.

I am looking for Iphone XS(old model i believe 2018 or 2019)
for my son. I need fully unlocked mobile. Do we have any deal on this?
That's what I'm looking to upgrade from and hand down to my son. Honestly if it wasn't for him "needing" a phone I'd keep it another year or two - it's a great phone. But for a phone that old, I think Craigslist or similar is really the only way to go. Apple has some 11s for sell in their reverb store however.

AT&T customer, I would like to upgrade from my iPhone 12 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro (128). Do I buy the iPhone 14 Pro via Walmart site ($20 over 36mo and get $300 GC) and then once I receive it immediately go to AT&T store and trade-in my 12 Pro for $800 credit on the bill (over 36mo)? Thanks in advance!

Why are you still hanging onto that ancient plan?

Newer plans are a higher priority with hotspot and a variety of other features. Unless you have some excellent FAN/Signature discount, the newer plans are probably cheaper.
What single-line plan should I go for? With my Verizon gU plan. I average 500-800GB monthly without any throttling. 4k streaming and hotspot can easily be done with VPN and Non-Verizon variant android phones. Yes. I work on the move, I pay around $70(voice$15+Date$49.99+tax&fee)a month. My 15% crop discount can't be applied because my voice plan is lower than $34.99. The disavanges of my plan are no 5G access I don't benefit for now anyway, 20¢ PPM, no new phone offer unless doing a plan change, and even VZ HQ migh not get your ancient plan back if you lose it, I complained it to FCC once, so I know.

This. I switched from old Unlimited > Mobile Share Value > Mobile Share Advantage > Unlimited Starter (with 25% FAN) and I like the newest unlimited the best. No more worrying about going over and getting throttled
And how much, single line?

I've read through everything so far but don't see a definitive answer to the Verizon $800 trade-in credit.

Can anyone confirm that we can buy from Walmart and then receive the $800 trade-in credit at Verizon?

If so, how to go about the promotional trade-in credit at Verizon after buying the phone?

Dumb question - Walmart site is showing "Early Access" for Walmart+ (which I enrolled in to get the iPhone 12 $299 deal).

Can anyone confirm that the Gift Card portion of this requires waiting: "Online Offer valid from Nov. 21, 2022, at 7pm ET" for all customers, or just regular (with Walmart+ earlier) or ???
Seconding this; has anyone done this deal and gotten the GC now with Walmart+, or is it the early access that doesn't begin until 11/21?

That is correct. You can even do the trade in online and they will ship you a prepaid envelope.

If for some reason this does not work can you return the phone to walmart. I am trying to do this for At&T and also on a verizon account.

Appreciate the explanation on this, does that mean you're locked into a 36 month contract or that you only get the full deal (trade in value) if you stay for 36 months? Hoping to do similar with Verizon but hoping to have an out if needed.

Sorry, I don't see an option to trade-in when Walmart page redirect after asking phone, zip etc. I want to trade-in as well along with gift card. Pardon me if it has been answered before.
