Instead of just saying, hey buy this phone outright and we'll give you this gift card for this much.. But no, they make this as confusing af so carriers still win in the end.

If they have not changed the process for this year, you will get the Walmart gift card emailed to you within 24-48 hours after purchase. I have upgraded this exact way 3 years in a row via Walmart because I have an old grandfathered ATT plan and do not want it changed or touched. This is the probably one of the few retailers besides ATT Corporate stores that can do upgrades or add lines without changing your current plan.

In 2019 I lined up in store and purchased 2 phones in store. It was $350 actual gift cards back then, they were loaded and activated at the time of phone purchase but they said the funds should be available after 4 hours back then.

In 2020 I did 2 lines again but it was only $300 gift cards but via email. The emailed gift cards and PIN codes came in a few hours after the phone purchases.

In 2021 I got smarter. I booked each phone's activation appointment 1 day apart. This time I upgraded 3 lines. The first $300 credit came in within 2 hours of paying for the first phone upgrade. So for the second phone's activation the next day, I used the first phone's gift card and paid down $300. Same with the 3rd phone upgrade the following day as the second phone's gift card email came in shortly same day after they processed the second activation. Therefore I am left with only 1 $300 gift card to spend later. Yes I went there 3 days in a row, lucky it's only 4 miles away and you get to reserve the phone size and color you wanted on their available phones on-hand list.

You DO NOT get monthly billing credits. This way you are never tied up for 3 years because billing credits balance is forfeited if you cancel or port out. The only situation where you may get billing credits is if you did a trade in and received $800 credit or whatever corporate ATT was promoting. But then you are REALLY tied up for 36 months if you wanted the $800 or whatever the ATT trade in promo was offering. The trade in promo billing credit deal is ONLY worth it if you plan on staying with ATT for 3 years AND if they were giving you $800 for an old cracked phone. I have never done this because the trade in promotions always required a plan change for me. Sorry I can not shed any light on this type of deal stacking as I do not want my grandfathered plan changed. Perhaps someone who has traded in as well as received the $300 gift card can share their experience here.

Please note, you ARE required to do the installment plan. There must be some kind of cell carrier kickback commissions for installment plans along with the line upgrade or new line activation commissions to the retailer. The monthly installment amount to be paid is dependent on how much you pay up front during checkout. So if the phone is $1049 and you pay down $849 plus your state's sales tax on the full amount, it will leave you with a $200 balance due, your monthly installments would be $200/36 months = $5.56 per month.

After 2 billing cycles (probably when the cell carrier commissions are paid due to Net60 terms) you can pay off your remaining balance via the ATT website and then cancel and go to another carrier and request the unlock code via their unlocking portal entering your IMEI number and cell phone number and email address. It usually takes a few days for the unlock email with the codes to arrive, a few times it came same day as submission.

For me I pay them off right before the next year's promos and request the unlock, unless I need a phone to be unlocked sooner due to international travel etc, then I would pay off that line ASAP as it may take a few days to process the unlock. Once the installments are paid off, I can quickly upgrade again via Walmart Black Friday promo, wash, rinse and repeat.

So to sum it up, you will receive your $300 gift card via email shortly after the phone purchase and activation. If you want the phone unlocked as soon as possible, do not do trade in billing credits and be tied up for 36 months. Pay down as much as you can at the time of purchase. Pay off the remaining balance after 2 billing cycles and request the unlock. For iPhones you do not have to do anything after requesting the unlock. Once you receive the email that it has been approved, just insert your non-ATT SIM card and it will re-activate the phone via Apple's server and it will be unlocked permanently, it will reboot, and probably automatically do a carrier settings update right after.

At least it's shipping through FedEx. I ordered a 14 pro same time as you. Got an email saying arriving by Monday then yesterday changed to Friday. Now it's back to Monday and they used USPS parcel select to ship! For a $999 phone!! Anyone else have their phone shipped through USPS?
You may receive your package from USPS by Christmas....

If any one don't want to order online , I just made reservations for 2 13 pro and 1 14 pro at Walmart store even though sale will start on 11/25 at store. You can make reservation today and pick on any day till 2nd December.

You can pay upto 90% at store.
How were you able to make reservations for store purchase? I only see shipping as the option when I am looking at the iphone 13. Do I have to get past the ATT/Verizon login page?

Does anyone know how to deal with the "We're having technical difficulties and are looking into the problem now" after you provide your AT&T account info and submit the text code?

The $800 promo trade-in credit is from the carrier, who is trying to lure people into a 36month contract with a pricy plan (>$75/month?). So it would make sense that the ATT/Verizon would honor the $800 trade-in value.
Even though it doesn't work, one still has the GC from Walmart, and they can terminate the contract after 60 days, and then switch to a much cheaper plan. There is still quite a lot gain here. I just don't understand why you have to feel bad?
Because earlier in this thread there were people who were talking about buying used phones for $200 to hopefully get $800, and when they trade those in, they could potentially get $0. Also, there are other people who were hoping for $800, but because they got the Walmart offer instead, they will not qualify. So they would have been better off going to Verizon/BB/Apple for $800 instead of $300 from Walmart. So yeah, I feel bad for those who were misinformed. I would love to be wrong, so I will come back in a month and see what ended up happening to people.

Or Bestbuy.com. Misinformation spread rampant on this thread.
That original reply was in the context of Verizon.com because the OP I replied too was using Verizon.com as an example.

Has anyone actually returned VZW phone bought from walmart online? Can you do it in store? What's the process for having them remove it from your vzw account so that it shows upgrade eligible again?
I would love to know the answer to this too because when I ordered my 14PM, it only had 128GB, now they have 256GB available.

Anyone know if I transfer my Family to Verizon with their BYOD (500 per line over 36 months) at Verizon.com can i immediately go to Walmart and upgrade to these iPhone 13 Pros? I would then sell my old phone.
So my math would be:
500x4 for BYOD = 2000 over 36 months
4 iPhone 13 pros = 3200+tax =3500
4 450 gift cards = 1800
4 x 400 selling last years phone (not part of this deal but relevant to me) = 1600
So 3500-(1800+1600)=200
Monthly 160-2000/36=105 per month

Does it work out like that? Specifically can I stack the BYOD and this deal.
Yes I'm counting on this to work as well. I switched from Spectrum Mobile to Verizon Welcome Unlimited a few months ago and got a BYOD promo of $240/line for 4 lines. Now I'm upgrading 2 of those lines to iPhone 14's, which is $300/line in Walmart gift cards. I expect no problems. One caveat -- the Verizon promo comes in the form of Verizon gift cards. To use them to pay your bill is not totally straightforward -- make sure you know your billing cycle so you can log in and switch out the payment method before your bill gets autopaid.

You have to pay over time to get the gift card, but you can pay it off immediately once it hits your bill and then it is effectively the same with no further commitment

AT&T chat told me that to get the $800 trade in, I need to purchase the 14 Pro thru them. Are you able to do something else? Thanks for the assistance, just making sure I know the right process to take.
Don't think rep is giving you accurate info. More like they are saying the safe thing to say. Upgraded 2 lines at Costco three months ago.

Went to ATT store and did trade in no problem. The trade in is what keeps you with them for 36 months; not the Walmart gift card or installment plan.

FYI about the extra $800-1000 trade-in credit, it's like what I thought, Verizon honors it. The carrier gives you this credit to lure you into their pricy plan for long-term. I've successfully finished the trade-in process online. Next step is to mail in.
