Would this be a good "starter" gaming computer? Looking for a gift for my teenage son who plays Fortnite and other 1st-person games (GTA, Gran Turismo, Red Dead Redemption, etc).

Yes, this rig will crush those games. Be sure to get a 1440p monitor. Your standard office 1080p monitor will be wasted on this gaming PC.

I agree with 321passion.
see if you can find some cashback deals. usually theyre running a 30% deal.
you'll prob need some more fans on the bottom or top, but you can mess with that later.

This deal yesterday that included a 3080ti for a few hundred more might be an omen for things to come for those that can wait https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/16199404

How is the cooling/noise on this? My experience with buying both laptops and desktops for the past several years (including multiple i7-12700 systems in the past couple months alone) has me deeply cynical that (pre-built) computer specs don't mean jack s#!% since they're all crippled and restricted by some kind of corner-cutting thermal issue or another.

i5 = i9 = i69 newest most expensive money-grab

I know, be mad, prove me wrong with some info, I'm trying to learn here, and mildly titillate.

Tempted to finally pull the trigger but the 15% restock fee with HP kills it with Black Friday FOMO

This is actually really tempting. Do we pull the trigger on this now or hold out for 1 more week for Black Friday deals?

This should be the price with a 3080 not a 3070

I wouldnt really complain about HP OEM GPU because (my 3080 Ti and 3090) comes with triple fan setup and ball bearing fan. 3080 Ti ran sufficiently cool. During these cold wintry days when I games on 1440p resolution, it only gets as hot as 55/70 C for core/memory.

Now, the proprietary motherboard and non-modular psu of HP OMEN 30L is another matter. I hate them so much.
