You can do it natively by unlocking [majorgeeks.com] the Windows power options [microsoft.com]. With Alder Lake you need to unlock MaxFrequency and MaxFrequency1.

Alder Lake's frequency sweet spot is 4GHz for the big cores, and 3GHz for the small cores. Any higher frequency will improve performance at the cost of much higher energy (20% perfomrance boost with 80% more energy). Source[/URL]]

You should limit the big core to 4GHz and the small cores to 3GHz, your PC will perform 20% slower (but a lot of task are not CPU bound, many are disk bound which won't be affected), but it will be 40% cooler. You can also make different power profiles and switch between them if you need to.

Likely be the same, don't have to pay $15 for shipping. You may have to pay extra in local taxes though!

True. I just saw this on the bottom of the page and when included, it typically means it is lower in warehouse "May be available in warehouse at a lower non delivered price."

Right, but it won't be less than $700. When the online price was $800 + $15 shipping, it was available for 800 in the store.

I picked one up at the warehouse a little while ago. It is the same $699 price, but you save the $15.99 shipping fee.

Honest question, would it be worth paying a little more for this also from Costco? https://www.costco.com/msi-presti...48029.html

Due to reported hinge issues on msi modern/prestige line I would probably pick the Asus... I did get the prestige from Newegg (1240p with 16gb ram) for $550 though... I am still debating if I should just loosen the hinge a bit and keep it or return it all together... On the other hand there are reports of the Asus being a stove when it comes to heat... So nothing is ideal I guess... If this was $700 before I had jumped on the MSI prestige I would have gone for it...

A plastic base plus a stiff hinge is what exactly causes these failures. You should definitely loosen the hinge.

The overheating issues can be alleviated by limiting the boost clock of the CPU.

Either of these deals seem excellent.

Yes, I believe there is a 30 day price matching policy if you asked. The return period is 90 days so if they refuse you have to return.

how does one limit the boost clock of the CPU? I poked around in the BIOS and didn't see anything pertaining to that.

I was at costco, saw this and was finally like, ok...my dad got one too. I have been eyeing this for a few months now and $700 seemed like a great price.

Not impressed with the SSD, though. Mine is a Micron QLC SSD. Might swap it out for a better one and more ram. Not sure I need a 980 Pro, but 7 GB/sec reads is hard to beat!

EDIT: The display is stunning! It's almost to bright at max brightness. 2 year warranty is also pretty dope.

Does anybody know if a 32GB stick of memory would work in this unit for 40GB total? I know Crucial says 16gb in the open slot is the max, but have also read posts here on SD, that say, often published max is not always true. Anybody know? How could you tell, without putting a 32GB in the slot and turning it on.

Couple of people in older SD threads have confirmed to have successfully added 32gb to make it 40gb
