Alder Lake's frequency sweet spot is 4GHz for the big cores, and 3GHz for the small cores. Any higher frequency will improve performance at the cost of much higher energy (20% perfomrance boost with 80% more energy). Source[/URL]]
You should limit the big core to 4GHz and the small cores to 3GHz, your PC will perform 20% slower (but a lot of task are not CPU bound, many are disk bound which won't be affected), but it will be 40% cooler. You can also make different power profiles and switch between them if you need to.

I was at costco, saw this and was finally like, ok...my dad got one too. I have been eyeing this for a few months now and $700 seemed like a great price.
Not impressed with the SSD, though. Mine is a Micron QLC SSD. Might swap it out for a better one and more ram. Not sure I need a 980 Pro, but 7 GB/sec reads is hard to beat!
EDIT: The display is stunning! It's almost to bright at max brightness. 2 year warranty is also pretty dope.

Is there a performance disable 12700H (Evo?) version? Why is this machine so cheap? Has both 12700H and OLED screen for 699?
It's a huge jump from my 8300H to the 12700H. CPUMark, 7548 vs 27074.

6800H is at 23790.

In addition, can anyone suggest a better 12700H deal? I was partial to Legion but I have not seen anything under $1k. GPU isn't a big concern as I'm not a gamer.
Update: I got my answer. This is a dup thread albeit with new lower price. Other thread discusses thermal throttling and link to a good video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf8BRG8

also MSI has a lower resolution, 16:9 ratio, less bright, 60Hz LCD vs. the ASUS brighter 120Hz OLED, at higher resolution and the 16:10 ratio
MSI has a fast nvme - at least the one in my 1240p version is
MSI comes with 32GB RAM and twice the storage...
MSI might develop hinge issues for free
Different strokes for different folks, but if you want the best display you can get for $700 or less, I doubt you can do better any than this.
