You can do it natively by unlocking [majorgeeks.com] the Windows power options [microsoft.com]. With Alder Lake you need to unlock MaxFrequency and MaxFrequency1.

Alder Lake's frequency sweet spot is 4GHz for the big cores, and 3GHz for the small cores. Any higher frequency will improve performance at the cost of much higher energy (20% perfomrance boost with 80% more energy). Source[/URL]]

You should limit the big core to 4GHz and the small cores to 3GHz, your PC will perform 20% slower (but a lot of task are not CPU bound, many are disk bound which won't be affected), but it will be 40% cooler. You can also make different power profiles and switch between them if you need to.

Gotta say, I looked at this laptop at the store today and there is NOTHING anti-glare about that display. It is very glossy. I would have probably bought it, but I cant deal with reflections.

how does one limit the boost clock of the CPU? I poked around in the BIOS and didn't see anything pertaining to that.

I was at costco, saw this and was finally like, ok...my dad got one too. I have been eyeing this for a few months now and $700 seemed like a great price.

Not impressed with the SSD, though. Mine is a Micron QLC SSD. Might swap it out for a better one and more ram. Not sure I need a 980 Pro, but 7 GB/sec reads is hard to beat!

EDIT: The display is stunning! It's almost to bright at max brightness. 2 year warranty is also pretty dope.

what's the difference between maxfrequency and maxfrequency1, is the maxfrequency1 the small core?

One or the other. I don't have my Alder Lake system yet but it is super easy to test out.

Battery looks like ass here. I expect people to turn down refresh rate and or resolution to have it last a work day.

My main PC is laptop hooked to 2 big monitors which I don't use for travel. It's a 2018 Dell XPS 15 9570 with an i5-8300H. Looking to replace it with one of the laptop with 12700H CPUs. Performance-wise, the 12700H > 6800. Battery wise, not as good but for a stationary machine, it's fine for me.

Is there a performance disable 12700H (Evo?) version? Why is this machine so cheap? Has both 12700H and OLED screen for 699?

It's a huge jump from my 8300H to the 12700H. CPUMark, 7548 vs 27074.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu....0H&id=4721

6800H is at 23790.

In addition, can anyone suggest a better 12700H deal? I was partial to Legion but I have not seen anything under $1k. GPU isn't a big concern as I'm not a gamer.

Update: I got my answer. This is a dup thread albeit with new lower price. Other thread discusses thermal throttling and link to a good video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf8BRG866yg

Honest question, would it be worth paying a little more for this also from Costco? https://www.costco.com/msi-presti...48029.html
That MSI has the newer CPU, better benchmarks and a better CPU for Ultrabook's.

Both cpu's were launched in q1 2022. and the 1280P ranks lower

vs
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu....0H&id=4721

also MSI has a lower resolution, 16:9 ratio, less bright, 60Hz LCD vs. the ASUS brighter 120Hz OLED, at higher resolution and the 16:10 ratio

MSI has a fast nvme - at least the one in my 1240p version is
MSI comes with 32GB RAM and twice the storage...
MSI might develop hinge issues for free Smilie

Couple of people in older SD threads have confirmed to have successfully added 32gb to make it 40gb
Would the new RAM be limited by the existing soldered RAM? If so, you could just disable the existing soldered RAM to avoid that right?

Picked this up for my 75 year old Dad. The screen is the reason I went with it. People on here trying to throw shade for soldered RAM, which is easily resolved for $50 stick of RAM, or for a battery. Meanwhile they got a 250 nit ISP like display they're staring at.

Different strokes for different folks, but if you want the best display you can get for $700 or less, I doubt you can do better any than this.

It's a preference thing. A glossy OLED screen is breathtaking.
