Are Kohl's promotions tied to Kohl's charge use? Just wondering if we can use chase on $100 Kohl's GC, then put the $100 towards a larger purchase and use a standard % off coupon for the larger purchase, and still earn Kohl's cash for it all.
Under my Chase account I was able to add to my credit card the Kohl's 20% back. So if I buy something from Kohl's I should use my Chase card and not my Kohl's card?
Seriously? Why would Chase give you 20% cashback if you use your Kohl's card? How would they even know? Geez…..

As long as the gift cards aren't processed via a third party (I know online, some grocery stores does this), you'll be fine.
Does anyone know if you get this 20% chase offer on freedom if it stacks if you pay with PayPal to get the 5% quarterly category?
I wondered about that as well, and when I clicked on the terms, it said not valid on third-party purchases, which is what PayPal is. My best guess is that it still will work if you use PayPal linked to your Chase card but I didn't risk it. I did shop through the Chase portal and got 5% cash back using that already.
If that's the case, a sure way for it to work is to get gift cards in person at the store.
thanks. I wasn't horribly concerned about the Chase/GC/$20 aspect since that's the roulette wheel part. I was wondering how coupon use ties into gift cards. I purchased a $10 GC online (wife can use that in her sleep) to test out.

My understand is just it detects the merchant code purchase, so making sure it's from Kohl's is the main part.

after some light testing, gift card use does not seem to impact the amount of kohls cash earned, nor the coupon amount subtracted. I added something +$50 pre-coupon. After applying the $10 GC to dip the total so that only $43 was charged to Kohls CC, $15 Kohls Cash is still earned. Coupon amounts stayed the same pre- and post-GC application. I say "light" testing because use of a different coupon (these were just HOME10 and ENJOY15) might yield different results. And of course the application of existing Kohls Cash as payment is another variable I didn't mess with.

I think you're overthinking it. The cash back for Chase is the actual amount charged. So to maximize the $20 back, just make sure after all Kohl's cash offers, coupon codes, etc., the final charge amount on your credit card is $100 for the full $20 back.

I appreciate your responses but I've already stated a few times that I was more interested in the use of the GC after whatever happens with the chase purchase, not whether or not Chase will bless the $100 GC purchase necessarily (I concur that a straight up physical kohls GC purchase will probably suffice for $20 back). But yes, overthinking it nonetheless I'm sure.
A $100 GC that costs $80 in the end but negates the standard Kohl's discounts is worth less to me, especially given the minor hassle. This stuff is probably already known by KohlsHeads but I've never considered these scenarios, at least not recently.

Oh! I understand now. Getting the same benefits of kohl's cash and coupons if you're using Kohl's cash and/or gift cards. Thanks for testing it! Will need to digest your responses more closely, as it'll be useful for me as well in the future!
