There's several people in my locality on FB market place and Craigslist selling similar or older MacBook airs for 500-600$ in worse condition with stickers all over them or power cable ruined

I suppose Apple must have a lot of these machines on hand -- yet another 8gb ram, 128gb ssd, heavily used 5-year-old machine with short 90-day warranty.

And from what they say "acceptable condition" stands for -- knowing the counterfeits and low quality Amazon is known for with "new" merchandise -- I don't have high hopes for the machine to meet even that "acceptable" criteria. And this is an abused garage sale find that's probably a spit n' shine refurb (usually with more spit than shine).

All to say simply: this isn't a slick deal. This is effectively ewaste. In 2015, 16gb ram + 512gb ssds were considered baseline. You cannot upgrade or replace any component in this machine. Which is a shame, because the CPU is perfectly fine.

The only way this machine is a "deal" is if you have exceptionally minimal requirements, super small budget (and if that's the case, why a mac?), and high risk tolerance given the relative poor condition + short warranty. How do the kids say it: "the juice isn't worth the squeeze"?

There was a sale on SD recently for M1 Macbook Air with 16gb ram + 1tb ssd, with a 1 year "All States" warranty -- for $500. Which is arguably a far better deal.

End users who paid full retail on electronics are usually the worst source for valuation.

But I'm going to share my Amazon renewed experience with Apple products..... I recently ordered an iPad mini 6, it was the renewed premium with 365 day return warranty. I get it a few days later. And I discovered the top right corner of the screen was heavily scratched and the backside body was smudged and scratched too. Renewed premium??? Well would you imagine that the return was a total nightmare? They wouldn't accept ups drop off point or pick up as an option. Staples was the ONLY option for return. They said it's apples policy. Staples was a terrible option for me, way too far away. After several back and forths it was staples or the highway. So I get it to staples. The person scans the QR code and they take it. Then I get told it's apples policy it's going to take like 3-4 weeks to get a refund.... I'm glad I kept checking because staples somehow lost it in their return. I had to contact Amazon 3-4 times and eventually they were able to get me a refund. But I had several really frustrating conversations with Amazon customer service. It was a full month later when I got my return. Nightmare! But before I got to staples. I forgot to mention this critical thing. Sorry to not mention this. Amazon gave me this return label and it said to drop it off to ANY carrier. Like seriously? I asked UPS and the guy laughed at me and said that's a scam. I contacted Amazon and that's when they said to do staples. I'm pretty sure someone was scamming somebody somewhere along the way on Amazon.

I've ordered scAmazon products that were sold as "brand new" directly from Amazon.com as the seller & shipper.

They came as used/opened/clearly broken. They were "sure we'll give you a refund....AFTER you send us a picture of it." Um, ok? If I simply didn't LIKE it, you wouldn't need a photo.

Then they did the same shenanigans with the returns, but with a UPS store. There's a UPS dropoff point (for prepaid labels) about 10 mins from me. The UPS Store? 45 minutes away, in an unsavory section of town I'd never be caught going to, and they keep banker's hours. Which is impossible to do when you have a full time job.

I had to escalate that TWICE to get a pre-paid label. FOR THEIR MISTAKE. What's your time and hassle worth?

(Once in the past, they wanted me to take it to one of these Kolds department stores....never been to one. And no wonder, it was over 90 minutes away -- one way. They wouldn't budge on that one, so I took the $5.50 item and threw it out. I'd burn more on fuel and time than that bauble would ever be worth. There's a reason Amazon why I didn't renew Prime. Take a guess.)

It's a good deal overall with m1 and all, but personally I'm not spending a dollar over 150 for this machine! I hope market correction happens and brings the price to 150 a pop

Gonna copy-paste my comment because you like to do yours on every other MacBook thread.
"To think that constantly getting downvoted on every thread would make you stop, but you don't. In the other thread you just referred to, you were also calling it a bad deal, and now you are suggesting that deal over this one. Stop trolling on every thread.

I will tell you exactly why this deal is quite good, if not downright slick. First of all, a similar deal on a better condition was $100 more a short while ago, and it was a very popular frontpage deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/18466465-refurbished-a-grade-macbook-air-m1-399?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thre..., then there was also this popular deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/18508246-refurb-apple-macbook-air-13-3-2560x1600-m1-8gb-ram-128gb-ssd-space...
So, reflecting on those, this is much cheaper and hence better.

Also, not everyone requires 16GB RAM to use a laptop for basic functions. This is a $300 laptop; keep your expectations real. This processor, display, speakers, keyboard, and build quality still outperforms a lot of Intel and Ryzen laptops at this price."
And marking your own comment as 'helpful' is very petty.
