Good deal! I waited so long for the 2i2 to go on sale, but I gave up and bought it a few months ago for $169.

I'm new to audio but I've done a little homework so I'll try to provide an answer if I can.

If all you're doing is conference calls to be honest an audio interface with condenser ir dynamic mic might be Overkill In comparison to just grabbing a USB microphone.

These devices are more for vocal and instrument recording or podcasting since they're most useful for turning the analog sound which is your voice or guitar into digital and then throwing that voice/instrument into a Daw. Daw is a digital audio workstation like a logic pro or Ableton Live Studio One Etc which then you can tune the voice/instrument with an EQ and assortment of effects and create a nice mix to send and upload online.

I'd advise grabbing a simple USB microphone. Like a Yeti or a snowball or the AT2020usb unless you plan on upgrading your setup and doing more with it like starting a podcast then you can get this now and save yourself a lot of headache when you plan to upgrade

Hope that helped

edit: reread your post and see that you already picked up the dynamic mic. if you're dead set on keeping that Dynamic mic and/or cant return it then I would just go for the cheapest option which is the um 22 I believe. since you won't be needing too much of a high quality settings like 192 Hz recording or multiple inputs.

you can use the gain knob on the interface to adjust the volume of the microphone. but again if you can return it I just suggest getting a mid-tier USB microphone like the ones I suggested since it'll be a simple Plug and Play setup, you can also adjust gain on them to add volume. plug in wired headphones without an additional 3.5 jack (or use Bluetooth with your computer) and it'll be easier to travel with in case you have to do conference calls in a hotel or on the road

You're going to want to use a cloudlifter or a Soyuz launcher with your SM7b or other dynamic microphone. On my Scarlett 2i2 it sounds great with my SM7B and Soyuz launcher.

Crazy. After waiting years I finally bought the 2i2 from Amazon yesterday. It was $159 but there was a 15% code (MUSIC15) which brought it down to about $126 before tax, then FS w/ Prime. Just arrived today tho haven't unboxed.

You can sign up for their newsletter to get free shipping. I'm not sure $10 is worth the hassle of returning and waiting for the one from adorama, though.

Yah, debated for a second but decided it wouldn't be worth it for me.

Appreciate the tip, still. Will keep it handy for future.

I find this not powerful enough with my dynamic mic by itself. It was still not that loud even with the gain all the way up. I paired it with a Fethead and my mic became much louder with very little distortion. Great price on this.

Nice deal! Been waiting for the 4i4 to drop below $200 for a long time, starting to give up on that but I wonder if the 2i2 at this price point is worth the downgrade. So many decisions!

(edit) Price drops on the SM7B ($349), SM57 ($89), and SM58 ($89) as well. Not necessarily "slick": but the 7B seems to never be less than $399.

I'm new to the audio interface scene as I recently got a dynamic mic for clearer conference calls. Trying to get a grasp of what the difference between this and say a cheaper Behringer UM2. Is it more for professional setups or will the average ear be able to hear a perceivable difference in audio quality?

Hey guys. I'm new to audio recording. Especially for vocals. it's going to between the solo/2i2 and the Beringer UMC 202/204 HD. Out of those four which one do you guys prefer?

Most likely will be pairing it with the behringer C 1 condenser. AT2020 just a little out of price range in comparison to the C 1

Also feel like getting an audio mixer would be in better choice since I can use it for not only recording but adding effects for live vocals/shows as well. But these audio interfaces seem to be the most popular option so I might go with these for now unless theres a good reason to get mixer and use it for double duty. Any insight would be helpful thanks

Thanks for the info @Kryspie and providing insight to what you've researched!

I got the at2005 bundle a little over a year ago and have been using the usb interface on it. It's considerably better than the built in mic I was using previously on my webcam. But recently started wondering if I might be able to take it to the next level by using the xlr interface instead, and adding some gentle reverb effects.

Sounds like you probably wouldn't bother if it's merely for conference calls/presentations though?

Yes if you have the AT2005 Mic you're pretty much good to go. I don't actually believe any of these audio interfaces have effects onboard and you may need a mixer if you want to do that with the dynamic mic.

however if you have the AT2005 like you can use open source software such as OBS Studio or streamlabs to add effects to a live stream. I'm not sure how they will work with conference calls as I haven't used it but I'm pretty sure if you use one of those apps in conjunction with your USB microphone to add effects like reverb to the signal without having to get an analog interface such as this
