Taxes and fees for CA brings this to $139.84, FYI. Works out to be about $11.65/month.

I've had ULTRA on one of my phones for 3+ years....never any issues at all.
Downside is that it's T-Mobile network.

Hmm, my Mint plan (which I have been very happy with) is coming up for renewal in a month. I am considering using this deal and switching to Ultra. Then, I'll be free to switch back to Mint as a new customer next year and take advantage of new-customer deals Mint offers then.
Make sure to read Ultra's T&C. I think I remember seeing a condition long ago that their promos are not valid for customers who were previously on the T-mobile network (including TMO MVNO's like Mint).

Why is T mobile a downside? I am considering going on TMobile network from att on red pocket.
I think it's because TMobile network historically has less coverage than AT&T and Verizon. So, if you go outside of metro areas, you have a higher chance of not having cell signal compared to AT&T/Verizon. I experienced this many years ago during a road trip from the southwest to Yellowstone - there were so many areas where I had no TMo service while my wife's AT&T was ok. Although, T-Mobile has invested in recent years to improve their coverage, I do not really know how far behind they still are in that respect.

How long should I activate after purchase? I have an existing plan ending in a couple of months.

You can always buy from Unreal Mobile - it's their standard price.

I read Ultra's Terms and Conditions [ultramobile.com] and there is no mentioning of that kind that I kind find.

You can just get this deal via Unreal Mobile then - $120/yr is Unreal's standard price.

Is $168 instead of $120 the regular price?

Yes - if you have any trouble, chat with/call Unreal support and tell them you'd like to port in from Red Pocket.

How long can you wait to activate the service? My current T-Mobile prepaid plan doesn't run out until mid-January. Can I buy the Black Friday $10/month Ultra Mobile deal [ultramobile.com] now and wait until early January to activate and port my number?
You can just buy this from Unreal Mobile in January - same price.
