Paired with a rx6600(190$), you could probably build a whole gaming PC for around 500$

Exactly what I would have imagined, would definitely go for 1tb SSD to not feel compromised

This has been OOS at my Microcenter for a while (when this was originally posted). Any idea if this was a sale until selling out inventory or do they restock at all? (It's an older chip so I'm not hopeful)

My local MC (St. Davids - PHL) was OOS for some time, but is showing 25+ in stock as of this AM, so you may want to keep checking stock online for your local store.

Thanks for the build list - I've had issues in the past with 2 AMD builds that I've sold where the memory flaked out and I had to replace the RAM in both instances - one Ryzen 1600 and one Ryzen 1700. I wonder if memory compatibility has improved with later generations of Ryzen processors.

I've done a couple Intel builds since then and memory compatibility has been no issue.

You're right. Back in stock now. Still trying to decide between this or i3-12100 + MB for about $50 more?

When I built my Ryzen 1600 system in 2017 I couldn't even get it to post with some quality Gskill Trident Z RAM. I ran out, picked up some corsair stuff off an approved RAM model list, updated the bios and everything was fine after. I think some of the early AGESA versions were really picky and not as stable. AND yes the memory controllers in the later chips certainly got better as well (later chipsets helped as too, i.e. B450 vs B350).

For reference, no matter how updated I had the bios on that first Asus B350 board from my first Ryzen build, I could never quite run that Gskill memory at it's full 3200 mhz 100% stable... until I upgraded the CPU to a Zen 3 chip.

In short I've had zero memory issues with any Ryzen system since that very early 2017 build with a very early bios. And I'm currently running 4 systems at the moment (1600, 2600, 3600, 5700x). Hope that helps.

Old but tantalizingly cheap if you've got DDR4 on hand...JFC this is tempting for a dead platform

I'm going for it. No cpu/ram upgrade path but my builds are on average 5-7 years apart and it won't matter anyways. My 4 kids are getting into PC gaming and I need another rig to play with them (nothing too demanding: GW2, Brick Rigs, Valheim, Planetside 2, SW Battlefront 2, some light VR). I'm under $500 if I reuse a case. Also picked up a 1TB M2 SSD for $50 (Inland) while I was there.

Any reason this motherboard couldn't handle a 5800X3D and a modern midrange gpu down the line? Tempted to get this as a slight upgrade to my 6600k machine so I can pass that along to the kids.
