Worth it. Plex is great and it's worth supporting the company even if you don't use the extra features.

many features a great though: hardware transcode, skip intro, remote download for trips etc

In 2016 I paid $120 for Lifetime.

I've gotten my money's worth and then some. It's a very well supported platform that has kept up with my growing library, including stellar Dolby Vision and atmos support. I've got live television connected and I've got easy access to all my content no matter where my family travels.

Love plex.

Loved Plex before and got the lifetime pass. It has the best gui of any media mgt software out there.

However, recent upgrades especially shield TV, they have taken away ability to use external player like VLC. Playing 4k movies on shield 2017 is a struggle with the crap ExoPlayer that you are forced to use. It always transcodes and I got tired of trying to figure out the codecs. VLC on the other hand is a beast and plays anything you throw at it in outstanding quality...it's just isn't as clean as Plex.

Can you use Plex offline yet? Or do they still require phoning home?

What happens if the company folds? Is your Plexserver still usable?
With plex pass you can download locally to an iPad for travel. This has been possible for over 3 years at least

Used plex self-hosted server.

This paywall really sucks and you have to do monkeypatching if you're planning to run it on your own local domain (like plex.local, for example etc)

Using jellyfin ever since and never looking back, but it's only for people who are really into self-hosting and open source

Plex has been good for me for years, bought their Plex pass just to support the company, didn't really need extra features. 🤙

Some tvs have Plex built in like Vizio and won't have jellyfin. You can use overseerr with Plex accounts for requests. There's a jellyseerr project now that can use your jellyfin accts. Or if you use docker, it's pretty trivial to host both Plex and jellyfin.

i have been waiting for the lifetime pass to go back on sale. i tried switching to jellyfin and it's just so subpar in comparison. while i don't think plex is perfect, the level of polish is miles ahead of jellyfin. if you've never used plex, jellyfin probably seems great. i was planning on continuing to use jellyfin for audio streaming since i didn't have a plex pass, but now i do.

This is invaluable if you subscribe to a "Plex library" like myself.

Been having Plex pass for 3 years now. Got it when it went on sale. This has been good and I have been able to use in multiple devices off the same account. The way it builds your personal content is pretty easy to understand and use

I know this is a good price and throughout the years I believe it stays around this on BF, but I still wonder if there is any chance it will go down on BF

Install it on whatever device you choose and point it at your media over the network? I think that's it.

What do you mean "yet"? Google "use plex when the internet is down" and you'll get guides from four years ago.

Here's a recent one though: https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/...ccess/amp/
