I don't know if this 17" or this lessor 15" with lessor CPU and lessor price. it won't be my daily or main computer. just a supplement to what I already had. I had MBP M1 pro max and Chrome Think C14. with a bunch of PC desktops...hard decision

different price point, but does anyone know if this from HP is a good deal? its going to be 850 on black friday...

the shame of it is, the $450 laptop in OP would probably meet my needs, but i absolutely must have a way to run dual external monitors off of it. which means usb-c displayport or thunderbolt.

Any opinions between this and https://www.newegg.com/carbon-gra...6834156265
Very similar laptops the msi one has slightly worse cpu but nvme ssd and thunderbolt ports. Also ram on this one is upgradable but not on msi.

I bought it for my dad. The size of the screen is more important. He mainly uses it for web browsing and watching online videos. This computer serves these use cases well. The build quality is good and it's heavy as expected.
I usually buy $1000+ laptop for my own use and this is the first budget computer I bought. So far much better than I expected for this price.
is it metal or plastic? thank you

I would not give this a thumbs down but there are complaints about the build quality so I'm staying neutral. The price does look good otherwise.

Looks good for the work but I can't imagine the screen is any good for media consumption by the standards of this sub, being 45% NTSC and 250 nits brightness
While the gamut is about ~60% sRGB and its not very bright, it is fine for indoor work - which is likely where you are using a 17" laptop.

The viewing angles are fairly wide even though it is not an ips. It'll certainly work for media content because it doesn't force your head to stay in a narrow viewing angle.

I have this and it is fairly solidly built. There are always lemons and perhaps that's what those complaints are. That said, you have a return period to identify if you have a possible poorly built unit right off from the start.

Does anyone know where to get the maximum ram stick that this laptop will accept in the empty slot?

Staples offers 5 dollars off ,if you download their new staples connect app. Plus 4% cash back from popular app. I just purchased this, after comparing the latest 15in-17in laptops I considered this the best value. I added an additional 8gb of ram for 20 dollars. The screen is great and wide. I was surprised at how thin and light the laptop is. Asus includes 1 year of accidental damage warranty for free. Perfect for looking at stock charts and medical images.

Just search for the best deal on an 8GB DDR4 SODIMM as per ASUS's website, "Total system memory upgradeable to:16GB"
