No, you can do the trade-in first and get the trade in value offer and know the value of your trade-in. If your trade-in item is not purchased from Buydig, then you will need to send in your trade in equipment to Buydig first before they can give you the Sony bonus amount (extra $50 to $500 depend on what Sony camera/lens you purchase). You can place your order BEFORE they receive and inspect your trade in or AFTER base on the OP steps.
I think this must be some kind of Sony promotional rules that apply to all sellers that has this promotion (like BHphoto and Adorama).
The official rule from Sony stated....

So based on that, I assume that mean if the item is not purchased from Buydig, they will need to receive the trade-in item first to satisfy the "surrendered at time of trade-in" rule from Sony? But if the trade-in item is purchased from Buydig, then that item is already considered surrendered for trade-in so Buydig don't need to received the item first before giving you the extra trade-in bonus(?)

Correction, the coupon is not about $300 but the value is $50 to $500 based on what you try to buy.
