Initially I was going to do a cheap Ryzen 5 5600 build in a mini ATX enclosure, but then the i5 13600 came out and I was going to purchase a full size B660 board and an enormous tower, after this price drop I think I am committing to an AM5 build on an mini itx case. The motherboards are similarly priced and I don't want to build on an almost dead platform like lga1700.
Additionally, the whole heat complaints about the 7xxx chips are absurd as you can undervolt and they run at extremely low temps with no performance loss. This takes no effort and involves changing a single BIOS setting.
Basically this and the i5 13600 are similar in performance (Ryzen tends to be better with games, i5 tends to be better with rendering and compression) with the i5 needing about 40% more power. This rises to something like 65% more when comparing to an undervolted Ryzen.
In reality, nobody will ever notice a difference unless you're doing a ton of renders or video conversions, and even then the difference is not extreme.
