I don't know exactly. My guess is they probably have a GC code generator running on a botnet that then tries each generated code to see if it's valid. Once they hit on a working code, they drain it immediately and move on. The longer a GC code remains valid and unclaimed, the higher the risk the generator comes up with an equivalent code and drains the balance in that time. Or at least that's how I'd do it hahaha.

Man have I got a service to help with that. You just send me the gift cards and her address. After my proprietary verification process I will forward the card. I will only forward the cards that had funds so your girlfriend never has to worry about getting a card that wasn't properly activated.

There's always a formula. Several years ago Lowe's used a specific formula to generate the $15 off $50 and people figured it out. You could enter the formula in excel and make your own coupon codes.

The scammers place their used gift that they already drained to $0 balance, back into the tray with gift cards near the checkout, so when you checkout with a new balance, the cashier (or you, if using self-checkout), will grab that drained $0 card that someone already added to their target account. Voila, you just reloaded the scammers eGift balance, and there's no way to get it back.
