Never touching Tivo again. A few years back I bought an all-in Bolt. A few months after my warranty ran out, the unit died. I tried replacing the hard drive but it wouldn't boot so it was probably something else. Their CS refused to help and wanted me to buy a new unit, even though the all-in plan is non transferrable. Stay the hell away.

No such issues with my OTA Bolt after 2 years. You know you can't just put any hard drive in it, right? There are specific models. Also the pre-formatted ones from weaknees.com are good.

Yes, I did my research prior to trying the hard drive, which was a last resort when Tivo's CS wouldn't budge with my claim.

What's Tivo? What's Cable?

Something that is still necessary for sports fans who don't want to have to deal with crappy sports apps like Bally Sports.

I think you mean 2TB not 2GB.

This is a good deal for people who still have cable and are able to get a cablecard from them. I paid twice as much back in the day for both my Roamio and Bolt with AIP.

I've had Tivo for over 20 years. I had the HDMI port go bad on 1 unit but every other unit has performed flawlessly. The only issue with Tivo is that cable companies are all going/gone digital so you need a tuning adapter to watch all of the channels. My cable company no longer provides them so that creates a problem. Tivo should have addressed this already with something that would help Tivo'nians but they haven't, and probably won't.

Just a warning, the ship seems to be sinking. Tech support is now outsourced and the wait time is BAD, Spectrum told us we can't change cable plans or we lose Tivo support and have to use Spectrum cable boxes and NVR.

Been using tivo since series one. currently have a roamio and Bolt and some minis. I agree that Tivo doesn't have all of the apps (I also have a shield, firecube, roku, to help address those issues; mostly so I can watch all March Madness games in my Man Cave). For those who are loyal to the Tivo ecosystem, I think this is a good deal.

Yeah my parents still have a Roamio and they were running into issues with it over the past few months. Trying to get spectrum for support was tougher than before the time Warner buy out, where they could do stuff remotely over the phone but now we're requiring a tech to be there in person. Eventually figured it out that the tivo itself was screwing up, replaced the hard drive and so far so good. I haven't done any diagnostics on the old drive yet to see whether a full format/wipe would've worked.

Tivo is still a must have for me. Plenty of OTA channels to record and the channel guide is still tops. Plenty of NFL games. MLB world series was great with it. Being able to watch games in their entirity as if it's live never gets old. I can save recordings as long as I want. Having built in streaming for YouTube, Netflix Amazon Video is a bonus.

I'm on a Roamio OTA & only replaced the hard drive once, but occasionally it does make some loud sounds, which could be the fan going. When this finally goes, I'll probably move away from TiVo, as the only OTA units they offer, are 2 tuners & that just won't cut it for me.

I do that with HDHomerun and Plex, and I can watch it on any TV in the house with no monthly fees.

There's no monthly subscription fee on a Tivo if you get the all in package (formerly known as lifetime).
