Been waiting YEARS for a wired z-wave version.
If looking for more than 1, they are on sale at Costco too. 3 for $80.

Yea. This is disappointing. What happened to Nest. Google ruined it. They were once cutting edge. Where's the Gen 3 wired nest protect that adds some unique high end features.

They have wired versions [amazon.com], but I don't believe they work with Ring/Z-wave. Instead they have their own proprietary Onelink system. That's still compatible with Alexa, with a speaker built right in, but a lot more expensive at $141.71 (even at "49% off" retail price).

Wonder if these resolved the terrible battery notifications of the first gen. I have two and I never know if they're working or not because they don't report low battery most times or report 1% five minutes before they stop working. Very disconcerting as you can imagine.

What is the benefit of Z-wave on the smoke detector? Is it just being notified if you are away from home and it goes off? Do people hook it up to a secondary horn, flash the lights, or some other integration?

If you have ring professional monitoring, they will give you a call to check, if there is no response, fire dept will be dispatched

Yes, they did. 1st gen reports its battery level once a week, 2nd gen not only reports its battery every 6-8 hours, but also keeps sending "smoke clear" and "CO clear" signals every hour, so it's much easier to identify if something stopped working. The battery levels themselves are tricky because AA batteries have nonlinear discharge curves with a sharp drop-off, so I simply started replacing AA batteries in all my smart devices when they hit the 70-75% mark.

IIRC after a self test the battery updates to the current level.
