Z-wave devices are intended for monitored systems (like security systems), which have an essentially* universal carve-out in the fire safety codes. Many security systems (ring, vivint,alarm.com, etc) rely on zwave devices for fire/smoke/CO detection. The rational is a monitored system will alert you to low/dead batteries so you don't need the 10yr batteries and a monitored system is inherently safer.

*Afaik it is universal but there is always somewhere that does something strange.

I bought one last year, but for some reason, batteries do not last more than two months, I've tried many battery brands.

Need some input. I have the Kiddie ones in most rooms but did a remodel, contractor ended up closing some of the hard wired locations by mistake.

I know if I get this they won't pair or interconnect with Kiddie but does anyone know if the wired version for example Kiddie would connect with their wireless version?

Or is it best to just get these around the gas stove being installed on battery and leaving Kiddie hardwired interconnected.

Saving your house from totally burning down even if you're not home. Also gets better insurance discounts. On the regular, I got tired of my hardwired shit always going off (one would malfunction or backup battery low and set the whole house off) and not knowing which one it was, the Z-wave bits let you name where you put them and you know exactly which one is low.

See my last reply here. I went from Kiddie hardwired to this. I even bought brand new Kiddie before doing this, they were all problematic and frustrating waking up at night thinking there's fire but it's just something wrong in the chain somewhere.

What did you do with the kiddie hardwire plates? Did you just patch up the ceilings and put this on top? I assume the brackets are not compatible.

Overall are you satisfied with the switch? Is the sound loud enough?
