Please don't buy Chinese cast iron. God knows what is in them. The American made lodge is a good inexpensive place to start. Also if you want good cast iron check Facebook market place and yard sales. I have so many old pans pre 1970s from yard sales. Dirt cheap.

Lodge is US made with US material. Imported material can have heavy metals and other contaminants from cheaper sources like melted down automobile engines

Just test those old pans for lead contamination before use. Lots of vintage pans got demoted to garage smelting duty for bullet casting when the wife upgraded to aluminum cookware in the 50's.

If it's 100% cast iron I don't know what could even differentiate it from Lodge. I've bought off-brand cast iron before and it seemed the same as Lodge. Maybe it won't be pre-seasoned but that is very easy to do yourself.

Don't have experience with this one but had a similar off brand set from Walmart and currently have lodge. I would say both of them were pretty similar.

I also have a Victoria (12" bought it for $14 on a deal) that is much better than both. The Victoria is much smoother so it is a lot closer to non stick out of the box versus the other ones having a rough surface that needs a lot of seasoning work before you can get them to be non stick. I also sanded down my lodge the whole way to bare metal smoothed it as much as I can and then seasoned it which makes it a lot better than stock.

Curious, what are you using to sand your cast iron?
I have several size Lodge pans. My griddle pan is rough and my 10" seems uneven.

Yep. Estate sales are the place to buy good cast iron. Even Lodge is cut rate comparably.

The castings were sooooo much thicker.

Easiest way is a flap disc on an angle grinder for the rough work and then an orbital sander to even out. Finally you can do some hand sanding if you choose

This seems like a great deal and it's easy to season a cast iron skillet. https://coremountaineering.com/ho...re-safely/
