I work for one of the 3 large credit bureaus and can say most BNPL companies do not make a hard pull. I will say that most BNPL are shady AF when it comes to this. On reddit, one thought is that people with high credit scores won't qualify because the business model is built on people who might not pay so they rack up fees. Not sure if this is true or not, just conjecture from another message board.
my mind is willing but my wallet is weak......
If you keep your credit reports frozen (as we all should, just temp unfreeze when seeking new credit), Zip will automatically decline you and tell you that you cannot re-apply for 6 months. There is no recourse for this and they will not help you, even if you explain the situation. Glad I was not approved because they sound like a terrible company.

If I'm going to take a hard pull on my credit for a discount, it'll be a for a real credit card and one with a $200 back on $500 spend.

Edit: According to the zip info page there isn't a hard credit inquiry.

Same, unapproved by Zip for the purchase Frown
For everyone not familiar with zip you need to set your account up using the phone app and make sure your credit reports aren't locked or frozen because they do a soft credit check so you will temporarily have to unfreeze your reports and sign up via the app and then your purchases will go through if you do everything right.

The app will tell you what your spending limit is per payment which usually defaults to $200 so the max amount you can pay for any given item with this is $800 because it splits it into four payments.

I didn't qualify for Zip pay.
This deal was posted early today over at Reddit, and while it is one of the cheapest 6800XT deals to come along, it does require zip payments.

They theorize over at Reddit that people with perfect credit may not get approved, as zip caters to those with average credit, implying they may be more likely the miss a payment and incur fees. Whether that's true or not, I'm uncertain, but it was mentioned. Good luck..

There's no credit hit...no hard pull. Only credit hit is if you don't pay on time.
