Just received an email letting me know their traditional Black Friday sale is live. 40% off ($19.99->11.99) for new subscribers. For existing ones, like previous years, just buy a $11.99 gift card for yourself and then apply it to your account to save. Only valid on the HD plans.

For those who aren't familiar with CS, it's an awesome (and super cheap) video service that specializes in documentaries, covering history, science, etc. I've been a member for like 6+ years now and watch it all the time. Not for everyone, but if you love documentaries, I'd highly suggest checking them out. For $12/year, it's a no brainer.

Also, to save some additional money, it doesn't seem like they verify the CC billing zip code, which they use to determine taxes. For example, my actual zip code has a ~10% tax rate on streaming services, which they tack on to the $11.99 (making it almost $14). I tried using a different zip code (10019) which doesn't tax streaming services (NYC) and it processed the CC just fine and my price was just $11.99.
But Hoopla has passes to other things too, and The Great Courses one looks interesting and something I'll be checking out.

I bought one earlier today but never got the email. Found the gift card under my purchase history and applied it to my account. For some reason it changed my exp date from 1/3/2023 to 12/22/2023, but I think that's because of some billing issue I had years ago where they gave me a weird credit that must have gotten broken, but losing a couple weeks isn't a big deal. Anyway, I ordered another one just now and it showed up under my billing history again instantaneously. Applied it right away and it added another year, bringing me to 12/22/2024.
