You mean you didn't know that a large part of the food industry uses HARD PLASTICS?? Have you seen what they use at most coffee shops? Heck, Philz coffee in SF does pour overs into food grade plastic…

Apparently I am not in the know

every coffee shop that I have been to that does pour overs, uses ceramic.. never been to one that used plastic

but maybe you go to the cooler places, and I go to old school places - but I can see a place who has clumsy workers who come in and out that breaks ceramics moving to plastic to save on replacements

but most places I go to use this

So someone whose coffee expertise I really respect actually recommends plastic over ceramic or glass for pour-over brewers: https://youtu.be/1oB1oDrDkHM?t=138

ah, yeah, that's James Hoffman. He's justifiably a god in the coffee world and he does a great job of explaining things in a clear, friendly way. The fact that he specifically recommends a plastic device confirms my understanding that this is safe & effective with pourovers.

(and for the record, I have and love the OXO pourover listed in this slidkdeal)

Do you want to take time to slowly pour the hot water into this pour-over coffee maker?

As I understand it, this OXO brewer is their take on the Clever Dripper in that it also is fuss-free way to do pour-overs.

Does it work well?
Bought and have used one of these since 2019. Works very well. Use it with the reservoir when in a rush, or without if you're feeling meditative.

I have both. The OXO is more hands off than the Clever.

I've had this for awhile. Love it. Super fuss-free pour-overs. Does anyone know of a ceramic dripper that the oxo reservoir fits into cleanly though? I want to switch out the plastic dripper that came with the oxo…

I thought the picture and video did a terrible job explaining their water dripping concept. I only knew how it works from one of the reviewers' video

By the way, I think for more control over the speed of your pour over, Hario v60 is the way to go.
+1 this. Hario is the way to go!
Get the Hario Mugen if you're new to drippers. It's hard to mess up with this

These are great. Possibly the easiest way to make a great cup of coffee.

All plastic junk.
Plastic is fine for a V60 because it largely eliminates having to pre-heat the device to optimize the brew. This is the one I use.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...LCUC?psc=1

Also don't have to worry about dropping it. Glass ones you have to pre-heat or raise the temperature of your water to compensate because the glass absorbs quite a bit of heat. Light roasts need water on the verge of boiling, medium roasts around 195-200 degrees F, and dark roasts around 185 degrees F. Consequently, most drip coffee makers are really only good for dark roast coffee.

Pass on the plastics… go ceramic

If you use ceramic, make sure to preheat it much more that a typical hot water paper rinse. Ceramic will pull out a lot of the water's heat, unlike the plastic variation. This is why many pour over review sites will recommend the plastic version over a glass or ceramic version.
