Unlike the Comcast provided equipment which never "just works". Probably because when your ISP provides the equipment, it's to achieve it's goals. Which will often conflict with you the customers goals.
Wondering this too since the page says "Comcast replacement" and searching for the same model on their website shows it as $189 for one without that note in the title.

As stupid as this sounds, check with your ISP before getting this. I have Optimum, and these are known for having issues activating on Optimum's network. You'll get access to their captive portal (barely), and the techs on the other side will see your modem for a moment, but then it quickly drops off. In the odd case that it stays up long enough for them to push the config to it, it rejects it. I was on the phone for hours with multiple different people from their helpdesk. It never worked and I ended up sending it back.
If you have Optimum, do yourself a favor and just get a Motorola or a Netgear. They're known for working right out of the box. I got a Motorola S33 and that worked flawlessly. I was quickly able to self-provision through Optimum's captive portal no problem.
