I also want a machine that will print B&W (and color, albeit not well) even if one of the color cartridges is out of ink, which eliminates a few manufacturers for sure (including Epson, and I think Brother).
Do Canon and HP printers still generally continue to print even if one of the color cartridges is empty? That used to be the case.
Am I likely to find a Canon or HP with automatic feed, single pass scanning for less any time soon?

I doubt a good brand color laser printer slickdeal under $500 would last 15 minutes on this site. I am thinking more like half that time. It would be a freak thing if any of us got in on it.
