Bought this chair design but under a different brand name from Amazon in early 2020. The lumbar support rod for the lower back is metal but the frame is plastic. Can be seen in the side view picture of the website. After a few months of use, the rod popped out of its groove and over the frame, pushing into the mesh material; the rod was pushing into my lower back. I tried fitting the rod back into the groove but it didn't hold and kept popping over the frame. The issue cannot be fixed with out jury rigging it. Left a review for the chair on Amazon but it no longer comes up, probably due to the item no longer being listed under its original name/brand. Was listed on Amazon as SmugChair Ergonomic High Back Mesh Office Desk Chair.

My current "big & tall" chair was $385 and I hate it. The foam seat never "broke in" which would be a good thing if it wasn't super hard.
I'm pretty convinced my only hope is finding a refurbed/closeout HM Aeron in size C.
Maybe a Steelcase chair with foldable or no arms, but even that feels like a risk.
Ironically, I've had to cut my work hours because of my back preventing me from being able to afford the Herman Miller I want.

Being a tall and long torso guy like yourself, I feel your pain. There are no good chairs. I've tried a Herman Miller Aeron C, it was okay. I ordered a $2500 Ergo-genesis custom chair, it was so-so, I ended up selling it for $100. The only thing that is remotely decent for a decent price is the Titan SecretLabs chair for tall, but unfortunately it is for big and tall, which means the arm rests and seat are too wide. The seat is kind of hard, but you can put a topper on it. I know, none of these are good options. My ten year search for a tall, long torso, not wide chair has taught me there are none. Anything ergo will hurt as the curves are in the wrong places for you.
If the chair you have that you hate is the Titan Secret Labs, then....yeah try the herman miller C, but it isnt tall enough. =/ Check the used market.
And it's junk: https://www.amazon.com/Ergonomic-...geNumber=1
Put your money towards something better that will last. Like this one $550 designed//made in Canada with a 10-year warranty:

Mechanism is built in Canada.
The company also offers the tCentric Hybrid at twice the price. https://gizmodo.com/the-tcentric-...1845055556

Bless you
Hyken has a thick steel plate under my butt and that's the bottom line I would go for a cheap office chair. Because that's the thing protecting my butt if the cylinder ever explodes.

They are both very popular in here and review well on the website. I have tried both in store and the Dexley feels quite nice.
There is no such thing as a cheap budget pick when it comes to office chairs.
I also needed a chair for the home office, and picked up a used Aeron for $600. I haven't seen any similar used deals for the Embody so I'm glad I bought that one new.
Both are very comfortable and I don't think you can go wrong with either as long as it fits your body. I'm still waiting for the Embody to arrive, but the biggest difference imo from sitting in store, is the Embody allows for more "lazy" sitting, while the Aeron wants you to sit more proper in it.
I haven't spent much time in either chair but these are my initial thoughts.
DPS Gaming 3D chair, sold at Costco --
https://www.costco.com/dps-gaming...01483.
For years I went through Staples chairs that tended to get soft within a year, then began to shed, and by the 2 year mark was useless (and uncomfortable). I had low expectations with the Costco chair, but figured with their return policy, "Why not?"
I've had it a year now, and it still has its cushioning, offers support and no shedding. And if it does begin to degrade, again, Costco will just take it back. I can't say it compares to $500+ chairs, but it's certainly fine for me (and I sit in it a lot).
Edit: And I see online it's listed out of stock. Check in-store if anyone is interested.
