Ended up purchasing the Solidigm P41 Plus instead, the Gen 4 successor of this drive, for $10 less: https://slickdeals.net/f/16184341-2tb-solidigm-p41-plus-pcie-gen-4-nvme-m-2-qlc-internal-solid-state-drive-110-free-shipping

There is a reason why the newer one is cheaper. The 670p has dram cache, while P41 Plus is DRAM less.

For a secondary storage drive does that matter or make a big difference.

I play old games like the last Doom and Starcraft 1. I mostly use my laptop for graphics and web design. I assume the speed of this would be fine. What about length of life? Thanks

Any drive will be fine for your needs. Even a 10 year old spinny drive will be fine.

Even a USB flash drive will be fine.

This is normal price. Fake sales to make you feel like you scored a deal.

$200 for QLC? At that price, you would get TLC drives from better brands like Samsung or Hynix.

This "deal" regularly comes from time to time.

Probably not all that much. The write performance can become rather poor after you hit the 65-70% capacity mark, so keep that in mind if it's like tour steam library that may do updates...they may start to take a while. Read performance won't be affected really. https://www.servethehome.com/soli...sd-review/

True, but per this Reddit comment [reddit.com]:
  • P41 Plus has a newer controller.
  • P41 Plus is "Gen4" and has caching improvements (read) and can do host-managed caching, which uses a portion of system memory as its DRAM (requires driver).
  • Same flash (144L QLC).
  • On the whole the P41 Plus is better but effectively comparable.

The dram cache makes it hotter

Exactly. This deal is VERY common. Is this also their Black Friday pricing? 😝
