That second part about not recording in stereo is just how recording works with pretty much any interface, my human.

re stereo/mono - this is how interfaces work. Each input will be single mic or instrument cable. If you really want a stereo source recording, set up two mics, one in each input, and record. Same with stereo synth if you want, left output to input one and right output to input two. Then in the software / DAW pan track one left and track two right.... stereo. Or in a DAW you could assign both inputs to a single stereo track.

But that isn't how multitrack recording is supposed to work. Pretty much the only things that should be recorded in stereo are drums and maybe synth. I record all in mono expect drums myself, then add stereo processing in the DAW for stuff that needs it. Oftentimes DAW plugin effects will add stereo components to the output. But your source recordings should be clean mono, otherwise you lose out on a lot of power a DAW gives you, plus your ability to mix properly.

I picked this up and cancelled my 2x solo order with Amazon. Fingers crossed that it works on Linux/Steam Deck.

It should, I can confirm that the solo definitely works with the deck, should be similar/identical situation here.

Will this work on a desktop PC? Any opinions on how it would compare to a focusrite Scarlett or something in that range?

Yep works on pc. Preamps are the same as the GOXLR, I personally went from a Scarlett solo 2nd gen to the GO SOLO because my Scarlett was occasionally crashing and having weird audio glitches.

Had high hopes for this device, wanted to use it to record stereo signal from my synth setup via an iOS device. Turns out it only records 2 separate mono tracks.
Also it kept power cycling when the input signal got a little loud.

Works great as a phantom preamp for microphone tho, I use it to connect my behringer c2 for zoom calls and I'm told it sounds good.

Read a couple of reviews that said once the cable goes out or you lose it, the device no longer works. You can't buy a replacement cable.

Also hearing people say that it doesn't record in stereo. So your mic will be on one side, your guitar/track will be on the right.

Can anyone else confirm this?

I included both sites in my post. BTW, eBay description also mentions 2-year warranty. So eBay is preferred if you have Amex offer, or have eBay GC to burn.

Yes, I read some reviews and can confirm that their mini USB connector is different even the shape is the same. So if you lose it, you'd better buying a new unit instead of purchasing a cable for it (expensive and difficult to find). (SOLO is just $19, LOL)

I do not have any knowledge about recording, but I agree with you… people will need some software to mix the tracks…algorithms will create the spatial feeling.

Great! Thank you! It's going to save me a lot of pain and time vs. trying to figure out if it will be supported in some later kernel.
