I REALLY like these pellets. Maybe they are a better hardwood pellet or something else, but I don't go through these as quickly as I would go through the Traeger, CookinPellets, Smoke Ring, and Lumber Jack pellets I've used in the past.
Pit boss is seen as a value brand and they make decent smokers but just because they make the smoker right doesn't mean they make the pellets right and you see that with a lot of products.
Also I believe during my "research" I found that pit boss and some other brands will use lower quality stuff like a lot of sawdust compressed vs lumberjack which I believe uses actual bark and all which gives off a more natural and bold flavor.
Again this is preference based however like I said it is skewed away from pit boss. Different strokes for different folks
