Dollar General has Lowe's gifts cards for 15% off, in store, today only.
The manager of our local store told us that each store only allows 6 Lowe's transactions without locking the system. However, there is a number that the clerk can call, if they are willing to, that will unlock the system again.
We purchased $2,000 in gift cards for $1,700.

There is a major problem with some of these gift cards!!!

EXERCISE CAUTION if you are buying the type which has a peel-off sticker over the code on the back of the card, rather than a scratch-off coating or a paperboard overwrapper. There is a scam where someone will go through through the entire stack of Lowes gift cards in the stores inventory and peel off the stickers, record the gift card info, then replace the sticker.

This allows the scammer to use an automated tool to constantly check the balance of the gift cards, and once the purchaser loads money onto the card, the scammer will quickly spend the balance --- leaving you empty handed. Lowe's and Dollar General are both completely useless for making you whole after this happens; both companies will refuse to refund you. To be fair, there is a ton of verbiage about "no refunds no matter what" from both DG and Lowe's regarding these gift cards.

I've been personally screwed by this before (only for a 50$ card that I received as a gift once). After receiving the card, I did notice that the sticker was a little wrinkled, as though it had been removed and replaced. When I went to the DG to try to talk to them about it, I inspected the stack of Lowe's gift cards on the rack, and I found that every one of them had stickers which had obviously been tampered with (usually by someone scratching up the upper right corner of the sticker, along with wrinkles and slight mislocation of the sticker from their imperfect replacement)

AFAIK this is only a problem with the type of cards that have a sticker over the code, and a lot of DG locations carry the other types.

15% off is a great deal, especially considering that it can be combined with the 10% off coupons or military discount, and I am not at all trying to cast shade on this deal.

But please be careful, especially those of you who are buying thousands of dollars worth of these cards.
No coupon required. It rings up in store for $425. The self checkouts require cashier assistance, so don't bother with them.

Heads up for people who havent been through this deal before:

(this info may be outdated since they've just updated the DG checkout counter recently, however in the past, this is how it worked): You can only purchase $500 on a single card at any single store. (I'm not familiar with smaller denominations, someone else please chime in if you have more details for that). If you attempt to buy more than 1 x $500 at a single store, the register will lock out and tell the employee to contact corporate because of potential fraud. It causes a big headache for the minimum wage worker, don't do that to them. You CAN however go to the next dollar general 5 miles up the road and get another $500 card. Repeat as necessary.

I got 6 this morning and nobody has asked about the type of card to use, while 1 person asked me to verify my ID to the name on the card. I used a CC for all transactions.

If you plan on getting multiple, I'd recommend giving your bank's fraud department a heads up, and they still might lock your card on the second/third store, so be prepared to call them back anyway.

For our military vets, firstly thanks for your service, but also this deal means you get 25% off any regular (and some sale) items at lowes, since this isn't an offer that changes your 10% off discount.

This is today only and only while supplies last, most stores have 20-40 cards on the shelf, some have <5. The sooner you go, the better your chance...although, who really reads the DG flier anyway?

Good luck, this is the largest quantity Lowe's gc at the best discount generally that happens once/year.

HD is horrible with GC refunds and the prices are pretty much the same. We got 3 of these today, same transaction with cc.
You don't need gift cards at Home Depot, the prices are better. Maybe not 15% better but better than dealing with Lowe's gift cards.

The deal specifically says Thanksgiving Day only. November 24th.
I see 24-26 when you click the ad for this deal. Maybe it varies by store/state.

I went to 2 DGs in West Fort Worth, TX and each $500 purchase rang up at $500- no discount, and the cashiers know nothing about discounted cards.

I went to 3 today in WA and none of their gift cards are ringing up with the discount. Frustrating. It's right there on the front page of their ads, but they can't fulfill. I need this deal.

i bought two today totaling $800 value from different stores. rang up properly, no issues. at both stores the employee didn't know about the promotion, i suspect i may have been the only person buying them. i have a major project underway so i will use these up really quickly - along with some 20% off and $20 off 100 coupons for a total of 35% off Smilie

edit: no problem using a credit card to buy, however about an hour after the first purchase my bank called to confirm it wasn't fraud.

in my area of central texas, HD and Lowes prices match pretty much exactly on lumber and most other items. i always compare prices between them on anything over about $50 and they match up almost exactly. lately, Lowes has been slightly cheaper on some Simpson strong ties, but only pennies. Lowes also has studs 25 cents cheaper. Also, Lowes lumber is better quality for the most part.

This happened with the Chipotle gift cards a few years ago. Someone could easily take a picture of the card numbers and waited for it to be activated. The cards had no scratch-off coating and all the numbers were easily accessible. Wrote the company an email. Not sure if they fixed the gift cards.

I'm still seeing so many other various gift cards with the same vulnerability. I'm not quite sure who these companies hired for their security department, but this is an obvious simple costly flaw with as easy fix.

This happened to me last month. I placed an online order using the GC and picked up at a local store, and with a screenshot from web bowser displaying the order number. I waited for several hours without receiving an order confirmation email. I went to the store anyway and asked where my order was. The customer service rep. called their IT help desk and that order number did not exist. I showed the screen shot from the web browser to prove that I did not make up the story. I went home and checked that the GC value was deducted. I called Lowes customer service toll-free number several times and the answer was the same: They could not find the order number. Finally I called another phone number handling the GC issue and my case was escalated to Lowe's finance department and someone said they will get back to me few days later. I called again and I repeated the same process again, until several days later I checked my GC balance and discovered that the refunded was added to the balance. It was a nightmare to use the GC to make online purchase. By the way the order number was 901040411 for a Chamberlain garage door opener.

It's weird because there are at least 3 different packaging varieties of these Lowe's gift cards available at different Dollar Generals at different times. They have a sticker that's easy to tamper with, OR a sticker that is mostly covered by an outer paperboard overwrap which makes tampering more difficult OR they can be found with a scratch-off coating instead of a sticker.

The whole issue is kind of baffling to me. I guess it hasn't become a big enough problem for Lowe's because they get their money either way.

I bought 3 totaling $1300. Went to two different stores. Wish I would have read these comments earlier because the second store gift card definitely looked like the sticker was tampered with. Fortunately I needed to buy the item I wanted at Lowe's immediately so I redeemed the gift card right after I got home, presumably before someone else tried to use it. That shit is scary I'm certain getting a refund on that kinda situation is next to impossible.

Also for those who use coupon sites like lowesdeal.com, I bought two of their coupons and they both didn't work. I saw on Reddit that Lowe's has gotten wise to it and won't let them through for sale items, which is damn near every item Lowe's has. I tried a 20% movers coupon and a 20$ Lowe's for pros coupon. If anyone knows of any coupons that do work please let us know!
