In my experience, these great amazing prices for Norton are 'intended' for new customers only. Their fine print in the Newegg ads even state this:

"For new Norton subscriptions only at an introductory price"

Is this NOT true? Just ignore the fine print and Norton support will help with current/new subscriptions?
I haven't had any issues. I've bought from Newegg and Amazon and was able to get the year added on to my existing. I just chatted with support and let them know I have license I want to add to my existing subscription. They ask for the code and add it for me. I'll report back once i get mine added.

You can turn off auto renewal very easily in your account.

Curious… fifteen years ago or so when I was worked in IT as a desktop support grunt, this product was virtually synonymous with bloatware and would cause more problems than it solved (sticking its grubby fingers in every part of the OS, slowing machines to a crawl by eating up an unusually large amount of system resources at the most inopportune times, etc…) Haven't paid much attention to it since, really… Has it improved?

From the perspective of an IT security professional, for the love of God please don't install this on your Windows computers. Save your money and use the built-in Windows Defender instead.

Do not activate it online. Chat with Norton support. Norton support will extend your existing subscription by 1 year after verifying the key. Done this couple of times with no issues.

If you like getting viruses, then, by all means, go ahead and buy this horrible program. You would be much better off using Windows Defender than this POS program.
agreed. I consider this malware. Just get Malwarebytes and windows defender.

From experience I wait until my current version expires before I activate.
That's what I usually do too. I usually get the 15 month subscription from Amazon near digital deals days. DDD is like the day before or near Christmas for things that are not going to arrive by Christmas.

I'm gonna wait until then as I find it easier to hold my code there than through Newegg.

With your tech IT history, you would think you would be the best person to answer your question.

I have an older 10 year old laptop that I use occasionally and when I turn it on I run Norton on quiet mode. That seems to restrict what all it's doing in the background. The fans turn off when I do that, so it must be doing something to keep it from bogging the machine down. System resources also throttle down significantly.

I mainly use it for filling out forms or using a desktop mode for printing stuff properly. Also good for thumbing through pics from SD cards and organizing things, or a simple PS edit.

Don't really need virus protection, but it's there for possible intrusions I suppose.
