But I'm glad yours works. I'll also note that it's entirely possible that the manufacturer has made design changes to the product that make it less reliable in the 2-3 years since you bought yours.

Not that I need to defend myself to Random Internet Skeptic Guy, but it arrived at my house the day before Thanksgiving and I initiated the return process today. I've had it for less than 48 hours. It's currently sitting on my kitchen counter while I spend Thanksgiving weekend with my family. It's going back.
