In for one, Monoprice usually punches above its price point with regard to their products. Their MTM-100 should be no different (currently own a pair of Vanatoo T0's on my personal desktop, but will use these with my laptop in the living room)

gonna need a sub for oomph. monoprice tune their speakers to cut out a bit early on purpose so they can sell a companion sub. good marketing. but pain in the butt for people who just wants 1 pair of something for their desk.

Normally speakers are tuned that way because mid-range/bass drivers change their impedence at lower frequencies making them more difficult for the internal amp to drive, thereby increasing the chance of distortion/clipping from the amp. Narrowing the speaker frequency response makes them easier to drive and sound more pleasant in the narrower band. Overall this results in a cleaner sound and amps can be affordable.

That would be correct at a much lower price point, these have a pretty high msrp for what they are. Lets say the integrated amp is not actually 100watt, even if it did 20-30watt, it can easily push small drivers like these to pretty high bass spl

Price points are relative. From my perspective, this seems more than reasonable at this price point and also quality over quantity is always better especially at this price point. If these were $100 speakers I wouldn't care for it. These are competing with studio monitors and the likes of audio engine or Yu, those are for people looking for quality of bass over quantity of it.

A 4 inch woofer in a speaker that outputs 45 Hz +/- 3db - totally unreasonable, what were they thinking

/s

Low distortion and linear frequency response - that's the best you can hope for at this price point and these check the box

Looks like they are sealed (no port), very unusual for desktop speakers. Would wait for reviews

They help in increasing the total volume of the enclosure which helps with bass extension. It enables smaller speaker boxes to produce bigger bass. Pretty much any Bluetooth speakers like Bose sound link mini or JBLs these days have radiators, which is how those tiny speakers produce bass.

For anyone that has this and got it set up... is the BT wonky for you? My phone had quite a bit of trouble connecting to it but once it did, it works fine... and never disconnects. Even when I have the unit "off" (I'm assuming standby). I literally have to manually disconnect the BT or shut the switch in the back off.
