I live alone and usually make 1 portion smoothies. Is it worth this plus buying another narrower container or just getting the 5200?

Simple and robust, or accessorized and feature rich. What kind of person are you?

The 5200 will last decades. My dad has a one that is 25 years old. It's simple. You have an on/off switch, a variable speed dial, and a full-retard high switch. The rocker switches are robust and could easily be replaced even if Vitamix somehow went out of business.

The A3300 is processor controlled with a digital display. You can set a timer and let it go. Membrane keypads on an oven, multiple remote controls, and a clothes washing machines have failed in my lifetime, so I don't have high hopes for the survival of the buttons on this machine. You will obviously not be repairing the unit with a generic rocker switch. The buttons are likely mounted to a motherboard with the screen, so any replacement will be expensive if not impossible. That's all not impressive in the least to me, but that's not the whole story. The A3300 does have an advantage of accepting the more modern jars.

I live alone & bought the 5200 on prime day. Best $300 I ever spent. Lol

The tall container is best for smaller portions. I love it. No need to have an extra container.

Just remember to register on the vitamix site. If you buy on amazon you cannot trade in but the rest of the warranty is the same.

I make single person smoothies in a 5200 all the time. I did recently get a low-profile 48oz. container that fits better under a cabinet, but the tall container makes small batches well too.

In for one.

Bought the e520 at Costco for $399 last weekend but didn't open it. Plan was to wait until today to see if the 5200 went on sale and return the e520, but this looks like the best Vitamix deal.
I was waiting until today as well, really glad I held out, those Costco deals were definitely tempting though. Glad to hear you got one too!

Honestly seems like you can't go wrong either way. I went with this one.

The wider container is pretty useless for small quantities. If you don't think you'll have other future uses, the 5200 probably makes more sense. Personally I don't see the point in storing containers you don't use, kitchen space is premium

Processors, sensors, and buttons are all subject to quality same as physical switches. Processors and circuits in industrial systems go decades with very high usage. Your washing machine was almost certainly designed to last 5 years.

The resistive buttons on most microwaves were also designed to last a certain amount of time. Capacitive buttons sustain no wear with usage.

The reliability isn't automatically bad if it's electronic. That plane you last flew in relies on a lot more electronic devices to keep you alive than electrical devices. The Ascent blenders haven't been around long enough to know if they put the same quality into digital as they have electrical switches, but it's definitely not a sure thing that the old switches will outlast the new tech. (Especially when we get consistently good quality from the manufacturer.)

You are correct that it depends on what is specced, and I'm not at all confident that Vitamix would spec much more expensive components for longevity. I can go to Digikey or a myriad of other suppliers to get a replacement part for a 5200. The A3300 will be subject to whatever Vitamix wants to charge for a motherboard and for however long they wish to offer that part. There's already reviews of A3300s showing failing displays with under a month of use. So, conjecture aside, those are the facts.

Ha planes that kept me alive undergo regular maintenance, how is this a valid comparison?

This has a 10yr warranty vs the 7 on the 5200.

Thanks all. Going with the 5200 then. Having to buy another container makes it cost more too. I like that you can walk away on the other one, but I dont really need to walk away making a 60s smoothie lol.

Hadn't seen that happening when I bought mine a few years ago. Good to know and a bit worrisome!

Vitamix provides 10 year warranty for Ascent 3300, that is really a long time. I don't mind if it gives up after that, I don't think think many would worry after that

Does the 10 year warranty cover everything along with the motor?
