Exactly. It would not let me add it while I had an active subscription. But once I cancelled, I was able to add the 1-yr subscription I'd gifted to myself.

I was on a monthly billing. When I cancelled they immediately refunded in full (not even prorated) my last payment from Nov 11, which I did not expect. Five minutes later, I was able to ad the gifted subscription.

Was set to expire January 2023. Cancelled recurring billing, gifted myself this pass, and applied to my account.

Now set to expire January 2024. Excellent deal, repped.

Beware. I just tried to purchase this and was charged the full price (not the deal price). After chatting with customer service, they didn't seem to have any idea about the deal and wouldn't adjust the price for me. Instead, they refunded the full purchase price, negating the entire purchase.

No. I tried it, they charged me $96, then when my membership wasn't extended, I chatted with them and they told me I would have to cancel my current membership to get this deal. Then they went on to tell me they couldn't locate the charge after having transferred me 3 times and having me give my credit card # 3 times, and I sent multiple screen shots of the charge. They finally told me I had to take it up with my financial institution. Door dash is such a trash company.

The customer service(chat) is awful. I tried 3 times to simply ask " how long after a giftee receives the card do they have to activate it" . They apologize profusely and transfer you to someone else who does the same. Just impossible.
