The 5 mil gloves are pretty thin and will tear easily. For medical or lab work, the 5's seem fine. It depends what you're wearing the gloves for, but if it's for working on cars, get the 7 mil gloves. They have even thicker gloves than 7 mil, but your hands will sweat a lot with more than 7 mil.

changed brakes with the 5mil, didn't have a tear

Agree with both of you.
In the past, the 5mil gloves were really 5mil and worked fine.
At some point the "5mil" gloves got thinner to maybe like 3mil and I'd have the break sometimes when changing my brakes (depending how stuck things were).

Still, I often use these thin ones in the kitchen handling raw meat or stuff that is hard to wash off, or cleaning the bathrooms when I'd rather not touch stuff. Works fine for that.

I've been running low ever since HF got rid of their 20% off coupon and jacked up the prices. And you can only fit so many gloves in your pocket before your doctor/nurse starts to suspect something Smilie
