I was staunchly against these pits. As a big fire guy, I thought they were essentially a scam. I was wrong.

I went to a party where they had the Yukon, and I was impressed. I decided to get the bonfire and the pit is truly amazing. There is no smoke once you get it rolling. I don't think I could ever go back.

It seems like maybe the shine has worn off on these things, maybe? I keep seeing deals and combos for them, whereas initially it seemed that they were going with the 'it's premium / never discounted' model.

Maybe some of the knockoffs have encroached on market share.

Question for the community - are these worth it?

I suppose the fact that SD Mods are shilling on their behalf suggests that this is less a 'deal' than a paid advert, which would then lead to the notion that this deal and the corresponding product are, in fact, shite.

The Route Package Protection scam seems to required to get this deal; there's no way to remove it from my cart unless I remove the coupon. I'd like to buy a Solo, but absolutely refuse to give Route a penny.

I've had the Solo Stove Bonfire (version 1.0 sadly) for quite a while now and can say it's awesome but expensive to get it set up the way you'd like it.

If you only get one add-on make it the heat deflector as it really spreads the heat out to the people, without it most of the heat goes straight up like others have said. I'd also highly recommend the base, heat shield and the stainless steel lid comes in handy when you want to put out the fire versus waiting for it to go out. Super convenient if rain starts and you don't want your new fire pit to collect water. Unfortunately, the lid is like $80 which is ludicrous. Here's to hoping another company with the same size pits establishes a great reputation for quality and great accessories (think Big Green Egg and Kamado Joe). Fans/owners of the products win when there's healthy competition.

Until then, I can tell you that Lowes sells the accessories and has occasional sales or you can use gift cards and/or military discounts if eligible to help swallow the costs of your shiny new fire pit. Otherwise, they may sell the base for cheap but will slowly crush you with the accessories/add-ons.

Anyone know a deal on these stoves that doesn't add an enormous amount to ship to Alaska? Solo's website adds almost $140 for shipping to Alaska.

I actually just found a way to get the $50 for a friend without even needing to go through IP tracking. She used my email and called her order in and was able to get the deal and the $50 off.
