New / Expired Xbox Game Pass members can convert Xbox Live Gold membership to Game Pass Ultimate at 1:1 ratio. Any prepaid time up to the maximum of three years gets the upgrade. Free VPN service is required only for redeeming the code(s).

Steps are only for New / Expired Xbox Game Pass members:

  2. Create [windscribe.com] Free Account on Windscribe VPN and Download App or Chrome Extension [windscribe.com].
  3. Connect to Canada on Windscribe VPN or using your own VPN service/app.
  4. Open browser in incognito/private mode and make sure you are connected to Canada by checking Whatismyip.com [whatismyip.com]
  5. Redeem [microsoft.com] your Xbox Live Gold code(s) without agreeing to recurring billing.
    • You can stack up to three years of Xbox Live Gold.
  6. Disconnect VPN after redeeming the code(s) and close browser.
  7. Join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate [xbox.com] by purchasing your first month for $1 (If price shows as $14.99, you can purchase Game Pass Ultimate first month [cdkeys.com] for $4.29 and redeem). Don't enable auto renewal when asked.
    • You will be prompted to upgrade your Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate with a 1:1 conversion. The renewal date should be the same as your Xbox live gold, plus 1 month (Maximum 36 months).
  8. Total = $44.49 + $1 = $45.49.

Yes you can. You can do up to 3 years worth if you wish (that is the max). Just make sure you follow the instructions to a T or you will be left with a sub you can't use. You will need to create an Xbox account for either yourself, your son, or both. You can share this sub with one other person. Step 5 in the OP is where you redeem from a PC.

You are the one claiming codes that don't expire do expire. You are the one that needs "proof". Feel free to show us anything that says these expire after 30 days. And no, they do not expire. If you have an Xbox live gold code from the Xbox 360, it would still work. But if you want to save yourself some trouble, you can just search for more of these CDKeys deals here on Slickdeals and you will see that isn't actually the case. Worst and most common complaint I see is that the code was already used, but that is typically remedied fairly easily, and again as a long as you use PayPal or a CC with some protection you won't need to worry.

My price to join XBOX Game Pass Ultimate was $14.99 so I clicked the link to CDKEYS.com for the $3.99 first month. This link comes up as Canada and I am in US. Do I still purchase the Canada version for this one as well? If so, do I need to go through VPN again to redeem this as well?

I got charged $14.99 for the first month for some reason, but the code did renew for 1 year and 1 month. Good until 12/26/2023. Came out at $60 for a year. Still not a bad deal

Yes, follow the instructions in the OP or your code will be worthless. Make sure you stack 1-3 years of Xbox live before upgrading to GPU.

You need it specifically for step 5, the redeem step. You don't need the VPN to buy it, just to redeem. For step 7 with the $3.99 GPU code, you should not need/use the VPN for that step as the code in the OP says it is redeemable in the US.
