Pre-drilling 2 pieces of wood before securing them with a screw so you don't split the wood. The shaft is shaped so that the screw head will be inset and flush with the wood.
I would stick with the Bosch set. They are an established brand. The cheaper, no name Amazon brands have less quality control and are likely to come dull or not sharpened well.

No, they have no shaft and aren't Bosh quality

There is a more expensive but significantly improved version of this.

Adjustable Countersink Drill Bit, Self-Adjusting Depth Control Without Wrench, Preventing Scratches Or Marks by Stopper Mounted Bearing, Tungsten Carbide Tipped Counterbore - 1/8"x5/16"(3x8mm) https://a.co/d/74ftzAo

Buy "Shopping land" brand stuff at your own risk. Looks like Chinese junk

From Amazon"
"Country of Origin ‏ : ‎ Korea, Republic of"

May not be as junkie as you think. One Amazon reviewer wrote: "I was on the fence about buying this because of the price but they kept popping up on different YouTube woodworking g channels..." But I only found 1 short video on TY https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VY1hYrIFB7U

It actually looks very useful.

That only has a single size, and the reviews suggest it doesn't work well if you want a shallow hole

The point is that the adjustable depth stop bearing is a modern design that is solid and repeatable. The first time you use it you will face palm on how clever it is. Especially in my case having used countersinks for decades.

With free hand it's hard to be consistent, especially in softer wood. This is a time saver if you are looking for repeatable results, especially for larger projects. If you don't like it, return it.

Most wood screws are the same size, just different lengths. But that is a limitation.

It may be best for most to stick with the Bosch countersinks for infrequent use. The tool I linked to takes the guess work out if you think you'll get a lot of use out of it. An analogy would be using a torque wrench to change a car tire rather than tightening your lug nuts "snug". Both work, one gives more feedback.

The same thing can be achieved with just using a larger drill bit and only drill in enough so the screw head is flush right?

Definitely can do that, but the feature these bits offer is more of a convenience thing.
