the Surface Pro 7 is Gen 10 Intel (as opposed to the latest Surface Pro 9, which is Gen 12). That's why it's so "cheap". "Cheap" is of course relative. Surface laptops (the latest ones) always start at about this price, but for an incredibly underpowered configuration that is virtually not usable. Something speced like this costs $2,0000 when new. (MS took a page out of Apple's abusive playbook sadly). So this is a good deal on a top-speced device that came out three years ago, if you can live with that.
2 other pro 3's go out and we expect a new person. Get 3 surface pro 6's. One still running fine, one died a month out of warranty, one didn't recognize the hard drive out of the box.
Haven't had any issues with the surface pro 8's I got last year but YMMV.

I would trade off thinness for proper productivity everytime. Get something like a Latitude 7390 2 in 1 (refurb) or Pavilion x360 (new) which will not give you back cramps and arm sores if you use it for more than half an hour.

Like all Pc's it really depends on the user needs. Most just check email/communicate and load on to company systems. So it is mainly about the ultra low weight.(under two pounds) I can see artist ,who are tied to Windows, liking them.
On the other hand.
They tend to have poor thermals and frequently cook themselves. They aren't dramatically lighter if you carry tons of accessories to make it act like a notebook. They don't feel as durable as a good notebook.
In the end they tend to be a combination artist/executive who wants the lowest weight. Occasionally maybe tech support. Overall I tend to prefer different devices, but can understand why some like them. I rather have a good notebook or a nicer tablet.

so is this one the i5 or i7 equivalent?
The reliability issues I've had come from compromises MS made with the hybrid design that did not hold up well with everyday use. The good news is that failures in things like the keyboard attachment are easily addressed with a replacement keyboard (luckily they had a spare in the IT office).
The Surface I'm typing on now still has some life in it, although the battery is starting to degrade. Seeing how old this model is, I don't see a compelling reason to bite.
